DSM 6.0 & Synology NFS VAAI Plug-in

Postby majinbelail » Sat Apr 16, 2016 1:38 am

Hi all,

has anybody tested if the VAAI NFS plug-in is still working with DSM 6.0? My NFS datastores show all HW acceleration not supported.

Cheers,
Fred

I just installed it last night without being aware of this thread. Tested with and without it. Without it showed no hardware acceleration and thin provisioning not supported. Installed it and both worked. What ESXi version are you running? I did this on 6.0

Hi,

I tested it on 5.5 U3b and when the plug-in is installed and used the nfsd or the port 2049 was dying. I think there is an incompatibility between the very old plug-in and the new DSM. I already opened a case for it (#803304). If you need additional information let me know.

Cheers,
Fred

I have an RS812 and I'm having the same problem with ESX 6.0U2 (VMware ESXi, 6.0.0, 3620759). I have successfully installed the vib and I have a mounted NFS share, but Hardware Acceleration shows unsupported. This is a 'from scratch' build with everything installed fresh and no upgrades. I'm using an HCL supported Intel I350T2 dual-port nic with one port dedicated to NFS traffic.

Synology stats:
RS812
CPU MARVELL Kirkwood 88F6282
CPU clock rate 1.6 GHz
CPU cores 1
Total physical memory 512 MB
DSM 6.0-7321 Update 3

Confirmation of the VIB from my console:
[root@vsphere:~] esxcli software vib list | grep nfs
esx-nfsplugin 1.0-1 Synology VMwareAccepted 2016-04-29

Confirmation of lack of hardware acceleration:
[root@vsphere:~] esxcli storage nfs list
Volume Name Host Share Accessible Mounted Read-Only isPE Hardware Acceleration
----------- ------------- ----------- ---------- ------- --------- ----- ---------------------
Synology 192.168.10.10 /volume2/VM true true false false Not Supported

Also in /var/log/hostd.log are the following lines repeated after each volume mount:
