DS1815+ iSCSI target for Hyper-V

Postby thedarnitguy » Wed Feb 10, 2016 3:17 pm

Hello everybody,

I am planning to purchase the following:

1 x Synology DS1815+
5 x Western Digital RED 4TB drives
2 x Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD drives

I want to use the NAS as a iSCSI target for a Windows Server 212 Hyper-V machine which will run the virtual machines on the server, using the storage from the NAS.

The plan is to set the five WD RED drives in a SHR-2 RAID in order to get 12 TB of storage and have 2 drives as hot spares, in case something happens.
The two SSD drives will be set as cache.

Will i get good performance using this configuration ?
Can you think of any reason why this configuration could not work ?

Thanks for your input
