My domain name can't be used in the same network as the router

Unread post by platinaproduktion » Tue Sep 25, 2018 5:58 pm

I have just set up a Synology DS413j in the office and have a problem with the DNS settings.

I have created a domain on synology.me and I can log in to the server from a computer that is not connected to the same network as the server. In the office, we can not use the URL. There we must connect to the server's internal IP address.

What can the problem be and how do I solve it?

Buy a new router. Keyword NAT loopback.

Short and precise as HP always is. What he ment is that if you want to run and use your public name that you have registerd with Syno inside your local network without using its static local ip, then your router(s) need to support NAT loopback option. There are other options as well (host files on your local computers, or a local DNS service) but all of them require some configuration and setup.

Some ruters also enable LAN DNS. On such routers it is possible to set public.synology.me to local IP address when computer is within network.
