Failed to connect to ther server... (error Code:53)

Unread post by logical » Fri Dec 08, 2006 9:58 pm

I was trying to Map the drive from my PC and got the following error message:

Failed to connect to ther server.
The client maynot be connected to the server or the client does not pass the authentication (Error code:53)

However, I had no problem managing the station from my PC and still able to enable the Download Redirector and access the station.

Any idea of why this is happening? Thanks.

Hi there--

Please try the following

1) Go to Start\Run and type "cmd" which should bring up a black window with white text
2) Then type

Code: Select all

net use * /d
which should purge your active network connections being used by windows, and try again to map the drive

If that doesn't work, try disabling the Guest account on the DS-106e.

Also, you can try

Start\Control Panel\Manage my network passwords and remove all the settings in the window that is displayed.

Franklin

I have the same problem as logical. You gave me the link to the hints you gave logical. I tried everything except "Start\Control Panel\Manage my network passwords" as I don't have such a item. It didn't help, I got the same error 53.

What I checked until know:
- user name at the DS-106e is the same as the XP user name (checked with cmd and the command set
- the connection from the client to the server should be ok, I Can access the DS-106e by using my browser
- cmd + net use * /d ==> list is empty
- the guest account on the DS-106e is disabled
- Start\Control Panel\Manage ... is not available
I'm using XP Home Edition SP2

What else could I try to map the drive?

Error 53

Unread post by big_kitch » Thu Dec 14, 2006 4:24 pm

I have the same problem as logical and mfrick. I too have tried the fixes suggested by Franklin but to no avail.

At the moment I can therefore only see the DS-101j through the PC I installed it through (which has a wired connection to the router), not through the other PCs connected wirelessly.

So for now the product is of no use to me as it is not network attached... Help!

Nick

Problem solved!!!

Unread post by vraa » Sat Dec 16, 2006 11:55 am

Finally... :D The problem is solved (In my case anyway)

It seemed to be a firewall issue.
Im using Zonealarm Free Version and this is what i had to do to make it work.

Note! The firewall on my network card is disabled. I don't know if it's a problem in this matter.

At some point during these next steps ZoneAlarm will probably prompt you about the "Synology Assistant". Just click "Remember" and "Allow"

1. Launch the ZoneAlarm Control Center
2. Click on "Firewall" and "Zones"
3. Click "Add" and "Subnet"
4. Make sure "Trusted" is selected
5. Enter the IP adress of your pc (in my case 192.168.1.100)
6. Enter subnet mask (in my case 255.255.255.0)
7. Enter a description. I entered "My subnet"
8. Click "Ok" and "Apply" and close the Control Center
9. Launch the "Synology Assistant" and click "Map Drive"
10. Know, in my case, the "Synology Assistant" locates the drives.

For those who doesn't use ZoneAlarm, i hope this still helps. :D

Thanks to vraa for resolving my error 53 problem. I too am running Zonealarm Free Version and the fix posted above resolved the problem. Well done!

I'm not sure why Zonealarm didn't throw up a request dialogue the first time it blocked the access (although my knowledge of all this is pretty limited)?

I'm glad it worked for you big_kitch :D

For those who's using another firewal - Try converting the steps above to the firewall you're using.

I am facing this problem as well. I have had my diskstation 101g+ up and running fine for about a year with the mapped drives, with no problems. Last week I had a faulty router, and I had to go get a new one. on the old router the IP was 192.168.2.115. On the new one it is 192.168.0.115. I got the router set up, and I can access the website and the photostation via the web. When I try to map a drive on any of my 3 machines, all I et is that either the diskstation is not connected or I don't have the right credentials. error code 53. I have tried deleting all the old drives, and I have completely shut down my firewall, but none of this helps. Everynow and then while i can see the server and I hit map drive, i starts connecting to server, but never finishes. Last time i got the error 53 I had to reinstall the machines. I certailny hope this is not the case again.

Kind regards
Sune
