Re: firmware 0803 on cs 406
Hi Alfredo,
I have this model RS-406.
I'm trying to update with the files below. I'm not succeeding But it gives an error saying that the file is invalid.
I have to change the model name to make it work? or do a few extra steps?
Best Regards,
Filipe Nunes

Re: inofficial fw updates on cs 406
I will no longer be creating any new builds. The x06 series are almost 10 years old by now, which makes them horribly outdated. Even the latest patched release for x07 models is insecure and should not be connected to any public networks. My CS406 served me well, but is currently collecting dust 4000 miles away. I have no plans to resurrect it.
Sorry folks. I hope I was able to provide some additional life to your devices, but I no longer have the time nor interest in continuing this. The builds will remain up for the foreseeable future, and if I ever quit my webhost I will do my best to move them some place else.
EDIT - Alright, why the heck not. Last update. It's been a few years and I no longer have my device, but I've created build 1369 for the CS406. I had to fiddle around with build since I'm on a Mac now, but I sent it to Edmond for testing. Not sure if it works, I'll create the RS and 406e builds once confirmed.
EDIT 2 - Doesn't work apparently, will install Linux again and try once more.

Re: inofficial fw updates on cs 406
Hi, been enjoying Alfredo's firmware mod for years now. Sometime ago one of the disks in my CS crashed. I recently replaced the disk. Unfortunately the CS won't boot correctly/fully. I cannot reach the web interface. It is alive (it responds to pings) but that's about it.
I have tried the soft reset (press the reset button until it beeps) and the hard reset (press the reset button until it beeps and within 10 seconds press it again) but to no avail
Is there anyway to resurrect the CS or must I consider it "bricked"?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Greetz,
J@n

Re: inofficial fw updates on cs 406
I'm the person currently working on this. Things are going a bit slower than I intented due to college and the slow process of reformatting the HDD everytime the NAS locks up. My laptop is the only system that accepts SATA disks, so I have to replace my boot disk and use a Linux Live CD to format the HDD (which takes up a lot of time).
v803 works fine though I don't suppose Synology has any objections if I upload that version for others to use? I'll try to get v844 to work in the mean time.

Is there a similar thread of updated unofficial firmware for the CS407
Re: inofficial fw updates on cs 406
You can find the last available firmware for any Synology Model on the Download page of the Support section of the Synology website.
