why do you download and install unofficial firmwares which you (probably) find somewhere on the ftp server? I am scared enough already when I upgrade to an official one after lots of testing.

as for your question, this topic http://www.synology.com/enu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=1478 might help you. As unsupported as your firmware, of course. :(

i think that synology improve the firmwares all the time so i try it
it may just be a corrupt firmware when i down or a bug

flash fxp is ok
and also filestation via explorer ftp

i just had to redirect member to file station via another route for now

Why you will try the unofficial firmware but still want to have support?!?

There are at least 3 type of firmware - official (722), beta (702), development (727 ??).

I'm afraid that Synology will support only if we are running the official firwmare. They also have limited support on the beta firmware while they will invite us to help test the firmware and feedback the bugs and feature requests. NO support and even will not respond any quetstion about the firmware other than the official on and beta one which is understanbable.

You must understanding that programming is not easy. Everytime when there is any change to the program (same to firmware) which included bug fixes and added new features, new problems may created. This is why all the newer version programs must have hundreds of dubug tests, UAT, performance testes, etc.. Thanks to Synology :D that they have invited us to help test the beta firmware for us can feedback the actual requirement from users-end. Also, different user respective and environment can help to fix more hidden bugs and modify the functions more user friendly and better fit to users' requirement. However, it is very difficult to spend long time on the testings on each new firmware (sometime, 1 fix or 1 new feature added will have a newer version). Thus, you shouldn't try the development firmware without any justification or invitation but ask for help and you must take your own risk on any unofficial firmware.

Cheers.

Dear all,

Originally the 0727 version is released for some problem after upgrade from 0726 (with PS3 2.5 fixed).
But we're aware about the file station error with 0727 and the fixed firmware patch is under testing at this moment.
Please kindly be patient and we'll release this version for users who has this problem on our site after verification.
The fixed firmware will be accessible in these days and no later then next week.

Sorry again for the inconveniences caused.

Hey guys,

I have a DS107+ and thinking about buying a PS3 as I see this as the best media server. Borrowing a PS3 from a friend quickly showed some issues, as mentioned a millions times here. While impossible to read through all posts in here, I'd very much like a summary of PS3's current ability to show sub folders on the NAS with v. 727?

From the threads I've read, the following is my understanding:

- v. 727 will give the PS3 the ability to view all content on the NAS.
- not using v. 727, the only solution is to install Twonky (however that works).
- DLNA support (which I understand will perfectly solve all issue) could be available in 1Q09.

Let me know how close I got :)

it depends on the FW of your PS3. PS3 with FW prior to 2.50 do also work with earlier FW of synology. Sony changed something on their upnp, therefore synology released the patch.

Oh OK - I updated the PS3 yesterday, so that's why I had troubles. So, you're saying that v.727 will totally fix the sub folder visibility issue?

Thanks!

yes, but you should consider installing FW 728, its the "final" release for this PS3 issue.

Didn't know that version was available as a final already. Seems I'll be even more pleased with my DS now! :)

On a totally separate topic, do you know of other great third party apps? Like direct streaming over the Internet?

Thanks for helping 'Harry'!
