Don't know what started these kernel errors, but these are the things I done before they appeared in the logs.

Ran and completed one Extended S.M.A.R.T test.
Enable and port forwared eMule.
Don't have Scheduled Power Off enabled. Don't know why I see this in the log.

Net....

Side note: Time bug is back with crond.
Product Model: DS-106
Firmware Version: 2.0.3 - 0640

I have my reasons for my insanity....

Greetings NetBoot-

Please try setting your MTU to 1500 to see if that corrects your error.

Hope this helps

It's always set for MTU 1500.

Don't do Jumbo Frames over here.

I'll have to start disabling some services.

Any suggestions?

Hi NetBoot

I'm going to send your post to one of our developers to see if our developers can identify the cause of the error

Ok, I jump in into this because I recognize the error. It might be related to my SABnzbd+ package. In this package, the script that returns the status will browse in the /proc directories to find which programs belongs to sabnbzd and which one not. thats where 'fgrep' comes in. I have one report of a user that had the same problem and could relate it to the package running. My guess is that the 'fgrep' hits an directory in the /proc that is being changed or removed the same moment fgrep has a filehandle for it which becomes illegal and kernel throws it out. This error will not corrupt data/memory or doing other nasty things, it just results in an kernel oops in the system log. Somehow, this is a kernel bug (any program should have an error that filehandle is closed instead of kernel panicking out). I thought this information might help you somehow to find the root cause of the problem.

Anyway, I've adjusted the script to only search in /proc directories that belongs to 'python' processes, doing this, we didn't see this error anymore. I will place a new package with fix on my server.

Regards,

Remco

Thank you!

Forgot I when I installed it and when the kernel panic occurred.

Thanks again,

After reading and verifying merty post. It's not an Synology issue.

Sorry for any heartaches and/or inconveniences.

Well, not completely. The fact still is that the kernel might go mad about unix processes reading files in the /proc directory. Although it is a rare case (and does not happen on most of diskstations, I never had the error after extensive testing) and nothing is hurt, my opinion is that these errors should not result in an kernel oops. However, since it only triggered by non-Synology programs, I would say it is not really that important to look into on Synology's side...

Remco
