Difference between 0702 and 0717

Unread post by moboking » Fri Sep 05, 2008 2:45 pm

I am a little confused here. Here is how I understand it. Synology releases 0702 as a beta base-line firmware. People would install it on their appropriate boxes and see how it goes and report any found bugs. Then Synology fixes all these reported and verified bugs and releases the 0717 firmware that contains these fixes. Then people would install this 0717 firmware and see if those fixes really are fixes. If they find new bugs, those fixed bugs will be part of a post-0717 firmware like 0718 or something. This process is done until all of the "major" bugs are fixed. Hopefully, it will be before the end of Sept that the official firmware is released because after all the 0702 is called the Sept update.

In short, there is really no point in my installing 0702 because it contains verified bugs and the odds are that the fixes in 0717 will not break anything else.

So far so good in my understanding?

Sorry, cant see your problem. Instead of letting us wait for the final release, Synology is providing us with an impoved Beta version for the official september release FW (which deadline is 09-15) for further testing, and this has been requested by many users, especially as the company announced that it will be the last FW for the x06 models.

is there any way of extending the support for the x06 devices...

eg.. pay a subscription or something,

cause its really sad to see the x06 devices which is very similar to the x07 having their support stopped

i myself along with many other x06 owners would really much like to see to what extent can the x06 functions, features, security, apps integration etc...
