Expand RAID 5 with larger disks

Postby frolland » Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:00 pm

Has anyone already tried to expand a RAID 5 volume with larger disks with this beta release ?
When trying to expand on my CS407e, it says that the volume is expanded but the size has not changed.
I can see some errors in /var/log/messages :
- First it cannot find a file in /tmp
Sep 1 15:14:47 volume.cgi: (volume_expand_progress_by_pass.c)SYNOVolExpandProgressByPass(31):Failed to open progress file /tmp/resize2fs.progress.scan.md2, errno=No such file or directory/2
So I did create a dummy one

- Then another file is missing in /tmp
Sep 1 15:21:57 volume.cgi: (volume_expand_progress_by_pass.c)SYNOVolExpandProgressByPass(31):Failed to open progress file /tmp/resize2fs.progress.extend.md2, errno=No such file or directory/2
I created another dummy one

- And the last error
Sep 1 15:26:08 volume.cgi: fs_vol_expand.c(54) system volume have not enough space to make a swap file
Sep 1 15:26:08 volume.cgi: (volume.cpp)ExpandFS(1512):Failed to expand device path= /dev/md2, errno=[2900]
Sep 1 15:26:09 kernel: EXT3-fs warning: maximal mount count reached, running e2fsck is recommended

Any idea ?

Dear Frolland,

Thanks for your message.

Do you have any third party software onto your system like SSODS or Twonkey server?
Please kindly remove such softwares and then try the expand process again.
If the problem still happens after the steps above, please send us a support form for further assistance.

Hope this helps.

Our company using RS-407 with segate ST3500320AS 500G HD x 3.
We add one more 500G HD to RS-407

At [Storage] - [Volume]

Volume:1
Type:RAID 5
Status:Normal
Capacity:914.43GB
Available:606.95GB
You can expand volume to about 1393 GB

So I use [Expand] -> [Complete]

After the expanding the Capacity still the same 914.43GB
