PXE boot (Windows) ISO

Unread post by felix_fx2 » Wed May 31, 2017 7:10 pm

Hello there,

Anyone have managed to make a standard Windows 10 ISO(Or LiteTouchPE_x64.iso created from MDT) boot quickly without errors.
Tried a few methods but took too long to load or kept on having errors.

Hardware i am using is DS416 play.

I Followed this 2 below to boot using pxelinux, but using memdisk performance is really poor

I have made a post here for PXE tutorial a while back (DSM 5.x version) but not much has changed and I still use it: https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?t=81371

I use AIK made ISO file to make a bootable environment pop up fast (about 120MB in size) and so I can after that choose what ISO I really wanna boot. Also at this point I can slip any LAN driver that I need if the machine I have as a target doesnt have the drivers loaded up in the ISO file.

After that just a few command lines to make the setup start and thats it. Not fully automated but then again I didnt wan't it.

Hi Rusty,

Using WinPE did not come across my mind even when i am doing similar work (MDT :D ).
I can roughly understand how you are utilising PE enviroment to met to ISO which you have shared out, that is a very clever of you

My original idea was to create a ISO from MDT to load but the ISO was way too huge 6GB+ , so i downgraded to trying a standard Windows 10 Pro ISO.
I have a good idea of what next to tinker with now, you have my thanks :D

P.S: once i got everything up, i'll try to write up something to benifit the community too.

Tried to load up the ISO from the start (without PE) but also run into similar problems. This way i made a PE setup ready for any additional driver, iso or what not.

Hello !

I tried some configurations to install windows 10 from Disk station , but with no success.

Is there a new "manual" for configuring Synology for installing windows 10 from it /Synology/ ?

Synology ds412+ - DSM 6.1.4-15217 Update 5

Thanks !

Are you asking about PXE boot or some other way? Also are you hosting pxe on syno or is it only a ISO destination?

There are no major changes for years so I dont see any difference in any step.

Post back if you will continue to have problems
