File sharing shows local IP

Postby DataCrypt » Wed Jan 03, 2018 11:50 pm

I must be missing some configuration or simply not understanding this, but when I go into my File Station and right-click on a file -> Share, it's showing me the Share link as http://192.168.../sharing/ZvkZ4CVNG. ??? That is my internal IP address which the outside world doesn't have access to. If I'm using DDNS, do I substitute the IP with my domain name (like http://mydomain.net/sharing) - I don't believe that will work. How do you get share links for others? Also how do you make them HTTPS?

Thank you.

You would go to Control Panel/External Access/Advanced and put your WAN IP address (or your domain name) into the "Hostname or static IP" box.

If you want to force https, you can do that in Control Panel/Network/DSM Settings, but I wouldn't recommend it, as it's pretty easy to completely lock yourself out of your Synology that way.
