Chrome Download Station - Google Chrome extension

Unread post by LuukD » Tue Nov 29, 2011 11:46 pm

After the Download Station extension for Safari, I have released a Google Chrome extension to control Synology Download Station. This Extension allows you to send download tasks to your Synology DiskStation without logging into the DSM web interface. Just right-click a link and select the 'Download with DiskStation' option in the context menu. You can check the progress and pause/remove the task by opening the popup with the toolbar button. When a download task has finished downloading, you will receive a notification.

Click here to download the extension.
After installing the extension a new tab will open where you can enter your DiskStation information. Please let me know what you think about it.

Feel free to post any ideas, questions, problems or bugs in this topic :D

Thanks! I appreciate your support!

I'm working on the first update for the extension which will be the first version in the Chrome Webstore (for free).

Edit: The extension is now available on the Chrome Webstore! Existing users will be updated automatically.

The extension works great. Thank you.

I noticed it downloads the standard def video. Some vids offers 720p and up. Hw can I have it download that resolution?

Great plugin! I have a question, maybe a bug. When I select multiple lines and add them, it says successfully added, but it only adds the first link. (chrome)

If you open the DSM web interface using HTTPS, does it show a warning about the certificate? If so, you might need to add an exception for the domain.

I don't have any plans for this. Something related I might add in a future update is the ability to download torrents from private torrent sites, but I'm very busy with other stuff at the moment, so don't expect it soon ;)

You can change the download settings for YouTube video's in DSM by opening DownloadStation -> Settings (gear icon) -> Filehosting -> Select YouTube -> Edit (in the toolbar).

I don't have plans for this since it's quite some work and I don't think many users have multiple DiskStations that they use for downloading..

The extension only supports one link at a time, it seems that the DownloadStation software is smart enough to extract one working link from your selection :P I might add this in an update as well!

It does show this warning but I don't think Chrome will do exceptions. Does it work for you?

I do have two DS's in two different locations, and I would like to use this plugin with both of them. Also I would like to access DS's locally and via internet (DynDNS domain) which would be possible only if I could setup many DS's not one.

Awesome.. I love this extension..

Just one problem. It does not work with Magnet links. Not sure why, as the synology will work if I put a Magnet link in the URL.

Any ideas.

It does work for me using HTTPS, but I'm using Mac OS X and in OS X the certificate exceptions are system-wide. The exception for me is the one I added in Safari. I can't find an option to add an exception on Windows..

I've never used emule, but there's an option to enable Emule in your DiskStation configuration. Log into your DiskStation as an admin and click DownloadStation in the configuration window.

I understand it would be very useful in your situation, but I would have to re-write a huge part of the extension to allow multiple DS's.
For using the extension both remote and local, you can use the DynDNS domain. It should work locally as well, at least it does work in my case.. Please let me know if it works for you :)

The interface to DownloadStation that the extension uses (download_redirector.cgi) does not support magnet links. I've read that The Piratebay might switch completely to magnet links, so I'll have to find a solution for this in the future.. Until that time you can only use .torrent download links..
