How to download entire folders via ftp?

Unread post by edlarini » Tue Nov 25, 2008 1:07 pm

I use to download many files via ftp on Download Station. But many of them are inside folders and when I specify the path of the folder I have broken link. So, I have to download each file at time inside this folder. Is there any way to download the complete folder?

I have never used FTP in Download Station but this sounds so simple that it would be quite ridiculous if this weren't possible.

Yes, it is simple, when you manage 1 file only. For instance, if I want to download one folder with 20 files inside, I have to create a download task for every single file inside the folder. Creating a task for the complete folder, I get broken link.

I've wondered this myself, but can't seem to find a way to do it.

Frankh I agree it should be simple, but it doesn't seem possible. I think the Synology Download Station simply can't do it.
Shame.

The Download Station (in it's current incarnation) does not support downloading entire folders via FTP protocol. If you need to download entire folders, please consider using an FTP client to download the entire folder.

Hope this helps

I stucked also on this point just now.

- Has this been fixed or is their any plan to make it possible ?

I personaly think this is not so complicated and could be a quick-win fix.

Hi,

I've just updated to Ver.2.2-0914 (Beta) and copying of entire folder still doesn't work.

Are you sure it made it in, I see no reference in the update list either.

Thanks

Is there any news regarding this feature? According to syno.allen-s post, this should already work with the latest 2.2 (final) firmware, but I can't seem to find how...

Edit.: Ok, I figured out how: Just specify the full URL+path to the folder which you want to download. Something like: "ftp://ftp.mysite.com/myfiles/todayfiles ... odownload/". Don't forget to add a slash to the end.

This will download the whole content of "filestodownload". It's a little strange however, that the downloader will recreate the full ftp remote path in the local download folder, so it downloads the files to "downloadfolder/myfiles/todayfiles/filestodownload/". I think it would be more logical to create only the last folder of the tree (/filestodownload).

But hey, at least it works now. ;)

DS211 DSM 3.1 + Vista

"Just specify the full URL+path to the folder which you want to download."

I type the address: ftp://192.168.1.12/music/

Then, when I press Enter, nothing happens. A Right Click on a subdirectory does not have anything that would indicate a download either.

If I click on a subdirectory, I decend to its contents. Repeating this until I get to a file, it then downloads.

How can I download an entire folder, or several sub-folders, via ftp?

This is exactly what I'm trying to find out at the moment too.. I'm trying to download files from a seedbox, but it will only download 1 file at a time.. When trying to do a folder I get the broken link message.. Is there a way to sort this?

The easy way to download files from an ftp is to mount the ftp server as a remote folder.
in the "tools" button in File Station.

Pierre
