Re: DS218+ & Video Station

Have you tried running Plex? My DS718+ can hardware-transcode h265 material with Plex (even if there's issues with subtitles every now and then).

Re: VM's are very slow

A hint would be to install your VM on a volume consisting of an SSD. Will improve things quite a bit!

Storing/managing homevideos? Inspiration wanted

I've got quite a lot of homevideos these days but I'm still struggling how to organise all the media that it brings.. I store the unedited "RAW"-footage + a more lightweight .MKV/.MP4 that's edited. The question is how to store it so it looks nice in folders? :) The second question is how ...

Installing DSM packages on "system partition"?

I noticed some packages like "File Station" and "Universal Search" and others are installed on "system partition", which I assume means *all* drives on your NAS, no matter if they're in a RAID-set or not. Wouldn't this be practical for other packages aswell? I'm pretty ...

DS918+ and M.2 NVMe?

I read that the DS918+ has two M.2-slots for cache-usage. My question is, can these two slots be used for standard volumes instead (=total no of 6 "drives")?

Re: What can I do with my NAS?

I'm using my DS718+ as: * Webserver (running MariaDB aswell) * Plex (watching movies) * Videostation (for watching movies when Plex is malfunctioning :)) * Synology Drive ("Dropbox") * Resilio Sync (for syncing files between myself and my parents) * SVN Server (for sourcecontrol for my pro...

Re: Plex vs Synology Media Server

With "Synology Media Server" I guess you mean "Video Station"? I've used them both quite a bit. I kind of prefer Plex (it has more features and options to configure) but at the same time, it's not always entirely reliable. If you want all features you need to pay for PlexPass asw...

Re: Best NAS backup solution

Some kind of p2p backup network would be nice. Perhaps an idea for Synology. Backuping up your stuff (encrypted) to multiple other clients in the network assuming you're sharing space aswell. There was a company that did this before (symform?)...

Ah I've tried that.. They use their native app. I'd prefer something integrated in HyperBackup..

Cloudbackup suggestions?

So, Amazon discontinued my unlimited storage account (or atleast raised the price ALOT), so the question is.. Where am I gonna backup all my files now? I really like cloudstorage but since I've got a few TB's, prices get very high very fast.
Ideas anyone?

Yes, my Windows 10 can access my NAS shared folders over the network, the same way as my regular computer.

Re: Windows 10 VM performance in Synology

I'm running Windows 10 on VMM on my DS718+, 4GB RAM dedicated. I must say it works pretty well for basic needs (better than my old DS415+).
I use an SSD for storing my VMM and that of course boosts performance.

Re: How to run asp.net mvc 5

I know there's a Mono-package for atleast my NAS-model, no need for Docker. I've run .NET-code previously (c# only) without problems. Can't promise MVC5 however but google will help you with that. Another alternativate is running Virtual Machine Manager with a Windows installation, but it will requi...
