Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

Verizon Router WAN port to ONT Synology Router WAN port to Verizon Router LAN LAN ports to internal wired network You don't have to to use NAT on Synology router but may be easier depending on your situation. I would enable IDS on Synology router first and make sure you review your logs for a coupl...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

You can do the same with home networks as long as you're willing and able to administer. The signatures were for the IPS where you should have them updated daily automatically. To keep it simple yes, double NAT but don't set the Synology router on a DMZ port from the Verizon router. You'll need to ...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

Unless you really want to see everything hitting your IP you could put an IPS at the edge but there will be lots of alerts...it's certainly educational but something I wouldn't want to spend time reviewing logs. Let the FiOS router take the brunt of the beating and let an IPS do the real work proce...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

I wouldn't use any wireless router at the border with the exception of having a guest network there, if needed, and away from your internal network. I would use the FiOS router as the border gateway with wireless disabled and let it drop most of the incoming junk and then have have something else p...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

I have a Synology NAS that is connected to the internet so I thought that Intrusion Detection / Prevention would be a good idea. Do you think that I should care about intrusion prevention / detection? I currently have a stock Actiontec Verizion FIOS router, with the firewall on. I am guessing it doe...

Re: how secure is the synology router?

Thank you for your response.

I need to order this router then.
Just that as I was searching, have heard of a new router offering by Synology. Wondering if I should wait a few weeks before ordering. :)

how secure is the synology router?

I recently came across the website routersecurity.org. Thanks to the creator for sharing his insights. And it appears to me that routers are insecure and I can understand - routers rarely get software upgrades. Now, I would think that Synology would be different and based on the upgrade pattern that...

Re: rsync vs rsyn daemon - benefits and steps

Thanks again.

My rsync worked fine, or so it appeared at least, with rather large dataset.
Will watch out for errors in the future.

Need to setup a cron job in Mac.

rsync vs rsyn daemon - benefits and steps

I had posted a question about how to backup my MB Pro folders to Synology NAS earlier today. I figure now that my best bet is to opt for rsync based solution. Now I can either 1. Run rsync on my MB Pro and backup to a mapped Synology 2. Or I can enable Rsync server on Synology NAS and follow this pa...

Re: is there an easy way to see disk usage by folder

thanks for the suggestion. it does work. i guess what was giving me trouble was mac sparsebundles that i have created. it is a large sparsebundle and perhaps because it has many many small files, measuring its size is time consuming. but there has got to be a way, I am thinking. for now, i will just...
