Is it possible to configure the storage pool back to be based on a single disk ('SHR with no data protection') without going through the trouble of cloning all the data and snapshots to a newly created volume?
No, this is not possible.

Re: How to set up 2 disks, non raid?

1) RAID0 or JBOD or 2 independent basic volumes
2) inform you about HyperBackup. Nothing you wrote is true.

Re: Trying to understand Hybrid RAID (new guy)

No, your model has a volume size limitation of 16 TB.

https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopi ... 7&t=119624

You can create a big storage pool and create multiple volumes on it, eah <= 16 TB

Re: Hyper Backup to backup a large volume to 2 USB External Drives?

You need 2 backup tasks, 1 per disk. And it is up to you to make sure that there is enough space on the disk for each task.

But then again, who is to know for sure? Well, Synology is. And since they don't care to much about participating in these forums, you can only know for sure if you contact them directly through a support ticket.
