Re: Remote folder disabled or is non-existent

Same here. I get this error and press Resume and it backs-up new content but then after it does the error message pops back up.

Re: [Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

Yes you can swap slots in the end and the DS should boot normally but as I said earlier — it does not matter which drive is in which bay. No difference whatsoever. There are no preferred slots or anything. Everything worked out. I just have Volume 2 and Storage Pool 2 without a Volume 1 or Storage ...

Re: [Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

4. Move all shares from the old volume to the new volume (using Control Panel) 5. Delete the old (degraded) volume on the Seagate drive 6. Create a new volume on the Seagate drive Note: you will lose all apps in this; you will have to reinstall them (as they are usually installed on Volume 1 and of...

Re: [Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

If you want the NAS to be quieter, run a longer ethernet cable and put it in the cupboard. Problem solved. It's actually not so bad at all and I get your point. I just think the more expensive RED ONE will run a little bit quieter. I find most of the noise comes from not sitting the drive inside th...

Re: [Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

I suggest maybe you should really have the main drive set up as a separate volume, and then have a backup drive again as a separate volume. You could then use HyperBackup/Shared Folder Sync/rsync to mirror the two drives. It won't be instant protection like RAID 1 but will be close. Is there a way ...

Re: [Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

However, I would like to try the 6TB Red One as the main drive and the 6TB Iron Wolf for protection. There is no "main drive" in any SHR setup. With just two drives, essentially a RAID 1 setup, both drives are equal i.e they are mirrored. None has a higher priority of the "main drive", DSM keeps th...

[Replacing drives] How to create a copy of the main drive?

I have 3 drives. 6TB Iron Wolf (Main drive with protection) 8TB Red One (Used for protection) 6TB Red One (Not used) I have a DS218+ So there are a few things with this. The first is that my setup is currently 6/8 for protection which means 2TB are not used. So I plan to replace the 8TB Red One with...

Re: Expanding SHR. Volume increase not showing.

Hello, Okay, first of all, I suppose it is doing what I want it to do. I have SHR with data protection but am down on a free 2TB of space. I can live with that. If I decide to get a 6TB drive and pull out the 2nd drive with 8TB and format that on a PC for backing up, can I put in a new 6TB drive int...

Expanding SHR. Volume increase not showing.

DS218+ Disk 1 Ironwolf 6TB Disk 2 Red 8TB DSM 6.2 I originally had 6TB in SHR but without data protection. I wanted data protection so I added Disk 2. Storage Manager -> Storage Pool -> Action -> Add Drive. After it added the drive I now have 1 disk fault-tolerance protection with SHR. However, Volu...

Bad WD 8TB RED sent back

Synology DS218+ Have a 6TB Seagate IronWolf in Bay 1. Bay 2 empty. Ordered WD 8TB Red. Unboxed. Slotted into drive bay rack. Reattached sides back onto the rack. Slotted rack into Bay 2. Rusty1281 wrote:Well if its gonna be in the NAS you have 2 options. Create RAID1/SHR and get a mirror of the 1st drive, or setup that new drive as a single, basic drive, and backup to it.
Thanks. It seems one of those options is the way to go.

Double backup onto another drive

I have a Synology DS218+ running 6.2 Beta and a Seagate Ironwolf 6TB.

I backup to it from my PC and other devices.

If the 6TB was to fail I would like another hard drive with the same backup on it to use instead.

So if I bought another 6TB drive how should I configure what I want to do?

Ah I was reading that tutorial but I thought Synology Assistant was a Synology app, but in fact, it is Windows software.
