Re: SD card vs USB 3.0 disk for rt2600

I already have the rt2600ac configured and working without IPS, because it don't start I follow your tip and use a sd card similar to yours with 64GB formated as EXT4 the IPS don´t start and give the message : Starting Service Service will start in five minutes After a long time waiting I stop the ...

Re: Intrusion Prevention stops iTunes Store from loading

Take time to educate yourself about the technology and if it's something you really want to invest time in because IDS/IPS isn't for the typical home user. The "I" isn't short for i-diot like some fruity products out there.

Re: SD card vs USB 3.0 disk for rt2600

I order a rt200ac synology router but I have some doubts about what to choose for storage I don't need space because I already have a synology NAS. I just need performance, but if I choose usb 3.0 there was some wireless interferences and I need to use usb 2.o instead or is better choose a fast sd ...

Re: Synology Intrusion Prevention Beta Package

Any IDS/IPS requires knowledge of the tool and doesn't compare to a simple firewall. If you're not comfortable with the below, then yes, it's not for mainstream users. I do think they need allow easier editing and writing your own rulesets. alert tcp $EXTERNAL_NET $HTTP_PORTS -> $HOME_NET any (msg:"...

Re: Synology Intrusion Prevention Beta Package

My second RT2600ac in routing mode and had it on IDS for the first couple of weeks with no issues. It's been about a week and a half now in IPS mode and no issues. I intentionally went looking for trouble and saw IPS alerts firing off. Some rules aren't set to block so you need to change to block if...

You try stopping and then starting the service? Do the signatures show a recent date?

Re: Witchcraft

First of all its beta software so I wouldn't rely on it in a business environment unless you're testing for a small group. AD in Linux isn't a new thing either (links below.) If you're looking for centralized Windows account management and basic ACL control then you may be fine; not sure how DNS wil...

Re: DSM 6.1 file system

Thanks for the information ... will a 'new' install on blank drives give the option to select the file system? DSM 6.1 installed without issue on ds211j; ds213+; ds216+. You may want to read a little more into what the filesystem would actually do for your environment. There could be a speed hit if...

Re: WIFI Channels supported

Which channels can be used is greatly dependent which "Country" is set within Control Panel ----> System. Differences of used channels by local rules / laws of a country. Settings are in accordance to these rules. E.g. settings within the RT1900ac - Country set to "Netherlands" is much less choice ...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

You can do the same with home networks as long as you're willing and able to administer. The signatures were for the IPS where you should have them updated daily automatically. To keep it simple yes, double NAT but don't set the Synology router on a DMZ port from the Verizon router. You'll need to ...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

Unless you really want to see everything hitting your IP you could put an IPS at the edge but there will be lots of alerts...it's certainly educational but something I wouldn't want to spend time reviewing logs. Let the FiOS router take the brunt of the beating and let an IPS do the real work proce...

Re: Same bad Intrusion Prevention performance on new RT2600ac as on RT1900ac

I wouldn't use any wireless router at the border with the exception of having a guest network there, if needed, and away from your internal network. I would use the FiOS router as the border gateway with wireless disabled and let it drop most of the incoming junk and then have have something else p...

Re: NTFS share storage performance on RT2600ac

Hello, I suggest to bring NTFS share storage performance on RT2600ac at a better level than the older 1900ac model as it's slower with the current firmware. The CPU unit being more powerful, we can expect to have better performance on read and write through USB 3 than the older model of the same se...
