Re: inofficial fw updates on cs 406

I'm the person currently working on this. Things are going a bit slower than I intented due to college and the slow process of reformatting the HDD everytime the NAS locks up. My laptop is the only system that accepts SATA disks, so I have to replace my boot disk and use a Linux Live CD to format t...

I have tried various combinations of: mdadm --assemble but could not find anything that works.
Yes. I did it via a Ubuntu / Mint boot CD on a PC.

Re: Slow USB 3.0 Transfers. VERY Slow!!

Is the USB drive formatted for NTFS (as most are from the factory)? From what I've read on these forums, DiskStation file transfers are a lot slower on NTFS drives than they are on ext4-formatted ones. I have two Western Digital drives, which are USB 3.0, but sadly limited to USB 2.0 speeds on my D...

Re: Tech Specs / Comparison Tables for older Synology Produc

eSATA was already in x08 boxes like DS508. It's basically just SATA bus so as soon at Synology switched from PATA to SATA I would expect you could see some eSATA connector present in the (bigger, expandable) units. So none of the 4-bay or 2-bay drives have had USB3/eSATA ? Only bigger ones? I meant...

Re: Tech Specs / Comparison Tables for older Synology Produc

My best guess is that the DS 112 is the smallest model with USB 3, but the new USB Station 3 comes with USB 3. And I would guess that the new (when it comes out) DS x13j series perhaps have a USB 3 port, but not to be sure. It's a little disappointing that they havent gone up to eSATA/ USB3 as yet....

Re: HD in CS407 crashed

just as a note, no pun intended, but, a CS407, it is 2013 .... It does not matter. Some people may grow out to 16-2o TB within 1/2 years. I would've grown my 2 x 1TB (What I started with) as well but never had stable UPTIME, to have the time and energy besides other things to migrate data, media an...

Re: Current HD: 1x2TB SHR New HD: 1x3TB. Convert to Basic Di

Anyways, let's get to this in a bit more specifics. I have these drives: Installed: 3 TB - WD - Disk 3 - 2794 GB - Disk Group 1 - Just installed - Empty (Came as replacement for a failed w 2TB WD) 2 TB - WD - Disk 1 - 1863 GB - Volume 2 - Has a little less than 1GB Data on it Original Past: 1 TB - S...

Re: HD in CS407 crashed

They did acknowledge the problem. I had trouble with the cables after a year of usage and they sent me a new set for free. But if a CS407 has run flawless for six years it was obviously not affected. And whose CS407 are we talking about here? Yours? or mine? I've had nothing but down time with Syno...

Re: Current HD: 1x2TB SHR New HD: 1x3TB. Convert to Basic Di

So let's say I have Disk Group 1 D1 - 2 TB D2 - 2 TB If you have two disks in same disk group, then they must go as RAID 1, and in that case you will have 2TB of (redundant) storage. Disk Group is intended if you have a huuuge disk array, under RAID, and you want to split it into several volumes, n...
