Step 3
Fill out the information in section a first. Afterwards, press the test camera to verify that the information is correct, and the Surveillance Station is communication with the camera correctly.
- Name: The name of the camera
- 32 Case Sensitive Unicode Characters maximum, except for the following symbols: ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , / : ; < = > ? @ [ ] \ ^ ` { } | ~
- The first character cannot be a minus sign or a space, and the last character cannot be a space.
- IP Address: The IP address of the IP camera
- Port: The network port needed to access the video stream from the IP camera
- Camera Model:Please select a camera model which is supported by the Synology Surveillance Station or select User Define to add a camera which is not on the list.
- Source Path: The source path to the video stream of the IP camera
- 256 Case Sensitive Unicode Characters Maximum
- Username: The Username to access the video stream of the IP camera
- 32 Case Sensitive Unicode Characters maximum
- Password: The Password associated with the above Username
- 24 maximum displayable Case Sensitive characters, including letters, numbers, signs, and space.

Step 4
Set the resolution and the frames per second of the recording. Ensure that it does not exceed the values of what the camera is currently set at. The frames per second speed is one through thirty frames per second.

Step 5
Here, options with regard to recording, and archiving files can be set.
- Archive Folder/File Name Prefix: 32 Maximum Case Sensitive characters, excluding the following ! " # $ % & ' ( ) * + , / : ; < = > ? @ [ ] \ ^ ` { } | ~
- The first character cannot be a minus sign or a space, and the last character cannot be a space.
- Archive Rotation:
- Days: 1 through 1825 days
- Space: 1GB to available disk space
- Detection Sensitivity: Values 1 through 99 are valid, default is 90%. This is used for motion detection recording.
Proceed to click on Detection area to define where motion change will trigger the camera recording

Step 6
- a: Click on Add
- b: Adjust the detection box to your needs
- Up to ten detection boxes can be placed on the IP Camera
- c: Type a name for the detection box and click on Save for the detection box

Step 7
Proceed with Next after (or not having) defining a detection box for the IP Camera

Step 8
Here is where a recording schedule can be defined for the IP Camera
Using the cursor of the mouse, select one of the three icons, which are Delete or Continuous Recording or Motion Detection Recording.
Clicking on the individual day will select the entire row; likewise, clicking on the individual hour will select whole columns. Or for meticulous needs, clicking on the individual cell offers great detail for specific recording job. Proceed by clicking 'Next when the recording schedule is finished

Events
Proceed by clicking Events
Here, all of the events of all of the cameras will be displayed. This entire list can be filtered down to individual cameras, what type of recording mode was used, or by a specific date range.
The Lock and Unlock buttons will prevent or allow an event file to be deleted by the Archive Rotation.
The Export button will present an Save As dialog and have the file to be downloaded to a local computer

Event Timeline
When clicking on Event Timeline, the Synology Surveillance Station will present a time line of record events, narrowed down by specific cameras and specific date; using this mode is an easy way of viewing a lot of events in chronological order all automatically.
- a: Camera Selection
- b: Date selection
- c: Day or Hour Resolution
- Select Day to view the time line of events for an entire day. For more accurate viewing and identifying of specific events, please switch to Hour Resolution
- d: Day or Hour Timeline
- e: Current progress through the Event Timeline
- f: Current video being viewed
- g: Current progress of the current video being viewed. Also available are playback controls
- h: Information and specifications of the current video file

Receiving Notifications of Events in the Synology Surveillance Station
Click on the Notification to set the Email information so the administrator of the Synology Product, or the Security Administrator will receive an email when an event occurs.
