Weather Station support?

Postby fmagic » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:07 pm

I am trying to find out if it is possible to get an Oregon Scientific WMR100N USB weather station connected to my Synology DiskStation DS213 running DSM 4.2. I found an application called weewx that I was able to get installed and running (it uses Python 2.7), but the application is unable to locate the WMR100N weather station. I have tried all 3 USB ports without success.

Log in as root
cd /home/weewx
./bin/wee_config_fousb weewx.conf --check-usb

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./bin/wee_config_fousb", line 425, in <module>
main()
File "./bin/wee_config_fousb", line 119, in main
**config_dict['FineOffsetUSB'])
File "/home/weewx/bin/weewx/fousb.py", line 496, in __init__
self.openPort()
File "/home/weewx/bin/weewx/fousb.py", line 510, in openPort
raise weewx.WeeWxIOError("Unable to find USB device")
weewx.WeeWxIOError: Unable to find USB device

In the /var/log/messages file, I see the following message each time I run the check-usb command:

Mar 16 08:16:34 wee_config_fousb[24877]: fousb: Cannot find USB device with Vendor=0x1941 ProdID=0x8021

I do see messages in the log file when I connect the weather station:

Probably you would need to compile a kernel module for that specific USB device.
Search a bit for the USB ID of your device 1941:8021 to find some clues.
DS-411 (DSM 4.3-3827u5) w/ 2x WD20EFRX + 1x WD10EFRX
DS-106j (DSM 3.0-1357), PATA-to-SATA adapter, 2.5" HM250HI

I meant to go back and post an update... I got everything working!

The weather station needed to be reset (it wasn't registering with the system properly.)

I have the weewx software working on the Synology DS213 with no problems at all!

I have tried to install weewx on my 412+, without result. I have a poor knowledge of linux systems, and I have not managed to translate the instructions for installing on other linux distributions. Can you give me some information to help me do it.

Thank you.

It would be great to have Weewx as a package. There are tutorials around for Syno but they are very complicated for the uninitiated. This is a pity since the on the face of it Syno is the ideal tool for logging weather info and running a webserver as in most installations it is probably running 24/7.
