Possible to play tracks in order?

Postby Franklin » Tue Jul 03, 2007 2:22 am

This is an observation when I was playing with our iTunes server, and the results of this experiment are not guaranteed.
[Yes, our engineering department is working on indexing track numbers, however, here is another possible solution]

For the sake of this discussion, I will be using this CD as our topic of discussion

Load the music files under \music\Rodrigo y Gabriela
Then using a plain text editor (such as notepad), create the following text file

Code: Select all
01 - Tamacun.mp3
02 - Diablo Rojo.mp3
03 - Viking Man.mp3
04 - Satori.mp3
05 - Ixtapa.mp3
06 - Stairway To Heaven.mp3
07 - Orion.mp3
08 - Juan Loco.mp3
09 - PPA.mp3

Note: These are a list of file names in the folder

And then save the file as
Code: Select all
Rodrigo y Gabriela - Rodrigo y Gabriela.m3u

And save the file here
\\diskstation\music\Rodrigo y Gabriela

And then your iTunes client should be able to play the music in order.

Again, this is strictly an observation when I was "dinking around" however it was successful with other mp3s that I had on my computer, so it may work for you.

Thanks for this hint. I will try this as soon as I am back home.

BTW: Good choice of music ;-) Saw them live in Singapore a few years ago... they rock!!

Cheers,
Jens

A quick way to create the playlist files

::Sorry, windows only::

Go to the command prompt and find your music folder
And type the following command
Code: Select all
dir /on/p/b >index.txt

The command prompt will create a file called "index.txt" with the list of contents in the current folder. From here, you can manipulate the file name to something else.
