why can't I transfer a file larger than 4GB?

Postby Heliskier59 » Sun May 09, 2010 4:15 am

I am trying to backup a bunch of avi videos I have on an external Seagate eSATA drive (NTFS) some as large as 20GB. I keep getting the error that the file must be less than 4GB in order to upload...what is going on here?

Thanks for the link....so I can download big files with firefox but I am still capped on the upload process to 2GB even with Firefox (according to FAQ)....How am I going to get these large files up on to the server? Does the backup software give me this option and if so will the data be uncompressed so I can stream it? Thanks!

I have about 500gb of video files on a NTFS formatted external eSata/USB drive (Free Agent). Is there any way to connect this directly to the 410j DS and transfer the data? When I look at the external drive option in DSM 2.3 GUI it states that a drive must be in fat32 or ext3 to read/write....I am looking for the most efficient workflow for this...thanks!

The drive can also be NTFS.

You could also use the command line interface (telnet/SSH) to copy your data directly.

I reported the broken download-issue earlier, but my post is locked. Don't know why: [url]http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=153&t=21893#p88201[url]

I have a CS407, latest FW, and me and other users of FileStation over internet are experiencing the same big problem. Downloads are dropped after 20-30%. It is with various files, and with various browsers, so it is NOT Internet Explorer related. It is also on PC and MAC. IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, they all show the same behaviour, downloads aren't finished.

Is there anyone who can shed any light on this? This is a big problem, and if I'm not mistaken, with some earlier FW's this didn't happen. But I can't be sure on this.

Please help, as this way there is no use for FileStation anymore.
