Creating playlists other than with Smart Playlists

Postby freddyfries » Mon Mar 22, 2010 1:29 pm

Here is the situation I have.

I have Synology Disk Station with a music library containing the same file structure and data as my normal Itunes libary (itunes finds it just fine). I would like to be able to stream music to my iphone for home and when I am out and about. Would it be possible to create play list in the local libary, Export them as playlists (.3mu playlists, I used itunesexporter for this) and then upload them to the music station folder?

I have tried, however, the music station does not detect the new play list. Is this possible or am I simply wasting my time trying to do this?

Thanks

Mark

The playlist must be located in the folder /volume1/music/playlist/

Here is an example of the structure of my "MONTSERRAT CABALLE.m3u" file:

Code: Select all
#EXTM3U
../MONTSERRAT CABALLE AND VANGELIS/SINGLE/02 LIKE A DREAM.mp3
../MONTSERRAT CABALLE AND VANGELIS/SINGLE/01 MARCH WITH ME.mp3
../FREDDY MERCURY AND MONTSERRAT CABALLE/Barcelona/05 The Golden Boy.mp3
../FREDDY MERCURY AND MONTSERRAT CABALLE/Barcelona/La Japonaise  02.mp3

(the first 2 mp3 files are for example in folder: /volume1/music/MONTSERRAT CABALLE AND VANGELIS/SINGLE/)

So as long as you put your playlist there and have the correct file structure, it will work.

Nice! Worked for me! I used iTunes Export (http://www.ericdaugherty.com/dev/itunesexport/) to get all my iTunes playlist on the iTunes server. Actually plain old M3U (without the #EXTM3U header) and EXTM3U format worked fine. Absolute and relative paths worked also!

Thanks!

I was grateful to see this post but after using some older back up m3u made from iTunes Export v2.11 I'm still having issues. I can see the playlist on the iTouch, but there is no music listed. I removed the EXTM3U header and updated path.

I guess the second question is how did you get the music into iTunes. I can only drag and drop if the mp3 is on the local drive not from DiskStation Share. Are you using MAC,PC or Linux? I'm on a MAC.

Hmm, tried your exact formatting on the files as you have and they just don't show up for me in Audio Station. The only difference for me, is that the files are buried further within /iTunes/music/.. but I tried formatting the files just as you say and the playlist just don't show up. Also strangely I don't see the playlists I make within Audio station in the Music/playlists folder. Wonder what that is about?
