I too have een wondering about the possibility to go directly from the media menu on the media client and to the wanted menu in the mediaserver ex: choosing Video in the media client and going directly to the video folder in the mediaserver.

I have a Samsung LED UE46B7050 TV with buildin media client and the structure is already organized in photo, music and video

Syno.Allen - I understood your reply, but is there a way of changing this?

There is no generic way to do this. Some Media Players will bundle a PC Media Server software which will pass some extra non-standard information when browsing Media Server and can avoid extra menu levels. I am not sure if your Samsung LED TV has this extra information.

- Video
I tried streaming ISO/MKV files to the PS3, but they are listed as "Unsupported Data". They work fine when playing using my Mac.

- Audio
MP3 files show album covers on the files, but the folder containing the album, does not show the covers.

PS3 does not support the playing of ISO/MKV files.

Well, I switched back to LAN 1 and now it works. Go figure...

Thanks for FLAC transcoding, this is really cool :)

PS3 seems to be case sensitive in terms of Genre. Salsa, SALSA and salsa are considered to be different Genres. Can you normalize for this so they show up as one group only? i.e. case insensitive?

Let me start by saying that the new media server is running a lot faster than the old one, but is a lot buggier. Indexing only finishes completely after a reboot of the machine, or no video/photo is displayed on my PS3.

I also have a USB drive connected to my Syno DS-107 and use a mount --bind to mount it is my video share and the old indexing service picked this up nicely. The new one thought, does not unfortunately. Any hints on how to index my external drive? (it houses all my videos...so a great loss if I'm not able to view those videos on my PS3).

I think the trick of indexing subfolders using "mount --bind" still works for beta firmware. Is it possible to reindex it ?

I have reindexed 5 times now. Sometimes no video or photos are found and only some of my music files. When all my music is found, it also finds my photos and videos in the video shared folder but not in my mounted folder, it comes up empty :(

I also notice that indexing yields a lot of errors regarding pgsql.
dms: Failed to run PQexec: server closed the connection unexpect edly ^IThis probably means the server terminated abnormally ^Ibefore or while pr ocessing the request.

Followed by a lot of Failed to run PQexec errors.

Any ideas on that?

Is it possible to use "ps ax | grep postgres" to see if the postgres alive ? Or please contact beta support and provide remote access information such that we can investigate if the indexing is working.

here's the ouput:
DiskStation> ps ax | grep postgres
1266 admin 2520 S /usr/syno/pgsql/bin/postgres -D /volume1/@database/pg
1268 admin 1956 S postgres: writer process
1269 admin 820 S postgres: wal writer process
2261 admin 4884 S postgres: admin download [local] idle
2618 admin 4716 S postgres: admin photo [local] idle
3176 admin 5540 S postgres: admin mediaserver [local] idle
3593 admin 3844 S postgres: admin download [local] idle
3880 root 304 S grep postgres

It seems to be running fine after a reboot, and indexing seems ok except for the files on my external usb drive. When i index a second time, PQExec seems to crash and indexing is also messed up since neither my PS3, WMP11 or DS Audio (iphone) find any files.

Hi Paulmadejong:
So the latest updated status is the postgres runs normally, all files indexing okay except for the files on my external usb drive ?

In our internal testing, the trick of mounting external usb shares under video share subfolder still works.
Please contact beta support for remote assitance.

SDM 2.2 unsupported media on PS3

Postby robert-jensen » Thu Jul 23, 2009 9:51 am

I have just upgraded to SDM 2.2, where MKV and ISO files shuld be supported.
When i start my PS3, its able to see the files, but it repports "unsupported media" and wont play.
Divx works perfect.

Anyone seen this problem, and might have a resolution for it ?

Thanks

You should read the user guide of your PS3: MKV and ISO are NOT supported by PS3 !

You are quite right.

I know that ISO and MKV is not supportet on the PS3, for direct playing, but i throught that when it got streamed from the Synology box, that it got transcoded into a format, that it could undestand.

But i guess i was wrong ?

Thanks.

Yes thats wrong. The DLNA server is not transcoding anything, its just indexing the file so that the DLNA client knows what files are on the server. But the client has to be able to handle the format.
