FTP file transfer log, does it work?

Postby PeterW » Mon Apr 27, 2009 7:17 pm

Hi

I searched but can't find anyone with this problem I have the FTP server all set up and working fine, except that I tick the check box to turn on file transfer logging and nothing appears in the log. I get the connection information but nothing in the log "FTP file transfer log" about the downloaded files.

Anyone got this working I am on

Model name:DS107e
Current firmware version:DSM 2.1-0832
Firmware date:2009/03/07

Thanks for reading

Hi
I seem to have the same problem.

I also see the connections to the FTP in the connection log.

And files have been uploaded to the ftp site.

An upgrade to DSM 2.1-0839 seemed to do the trick for me now.

I updated to DSM 2.1-0844 and I still seem to have the problem :(
Suppose I should have tried the DSM 2.1-0839 release first :?

I would suggest to wait for the next release this days (RC or final version). If the problem persists, submit a support form and let Synology staff remotely have a look into your server

Re: FTP file transfer log, does it work?

Postby edikatta » Wed Oct 14, 2009 1:59 pm

Hello,

i have the same problem on my DS-108j. Upgrade to DSM 2.2-0942 didn't help.
When looking into this, I found additional information that might point to the underlying cause.
Every time a file is transferred by ftp, there is an entry in /var/log/messages:

ftpd[1497]: ftpxfer.c (36) Failed to connect to /tmp/synologd (No such file or directory)

The file mentioned, /tmp/synologd is there, and it is a socket:
srw-rw-rw- 1 root root 0 Oct 14 13:42 /tmp/synologd

Any help would be appreciated.

I also have the same problem here. Latest F/W installed, connection logs indicate transfers were made, but the FTP log remains empty.

Solved!

@ XBMC_2: How exactly have you solved this problem? Any help is appreciated.

Well I'm embarrassed to say......but I reformatted my Syno to JBOD a week ago or so and didn't load my config file as mine's pretty basic. I enabled the FTP server BUT didn't check off the "Enable FTP file transfer log" button.......silly me! Works again. Hope your problem is a simple as mine.

Well, if the check is on but the log remains empty all the time, the problem seems not so simple...

Exact same problem here, using a DS109 with firmware DSM 2.2-0942. Plenty of ftp traffic going on, but no logging at all. Just login info in the connection log and that's it. Haven't looked at any logs through ssh though, so I can't confirm the /tmp/synologd error.

Hi,
exact same problem with my DS209, firmware DSM 2.2-0942. I know it's not the latest firmware update, but there's nothing about FTP log in the latest version?

I can see events (known) in the logs for FTP and File Station on both my DS's - looks normal for me.

I have some news :

This error appears in /var/log/messages each time you download some file with an anonymous login :

Jan 21 00:19:58 ftpd[13552]: ftpxfer.c (36) Failed to connect to /tmp/synologd (No such file or directory)

When you use a real login, no more error is produced ;
This fact seems to be correlated with the fact that log entrys only concern the logged users.

I'm trying to find a solution to log anonymous users, and this may help...
