Postby edmond » Tue Apr 07, 2009 4:00 pm

i have done an expiriment with firmware 0803 on the cs406, and this workds perfect. i dont have anny problems at the moment. The problems what i had with firmware 731 are gone (with frimware 0731 i had the bug that when i logged off as admin that i got the message that i could not use that service).

firmware 959 viewtopic.php?f=128&t=14130&start=75#p78586
But look out synology doesn't support it wehen you brick your hardware. Use it at your own risk.

406 to run mail station ?is it possible

Postby wulee » Mon Apr 13, 2009 5:52 pm

IT's sad to know that 406 only had latest patch to DSM 2.0-0731.

And mail station, which i think should be able to run on 406, requires "User Home" feature which seems not available on DSM 2.0-0731.

May i ask is it possible to run mail station on 406 :?:

Thanks.

I'm the person currently working on this. Things are going a bit slower than I intented due to college and the slow process of reformatting the HDD everytime the NAS locks up. My laptop is the only system that accepts SATA disks, so I have to replace my boot disk and use a Linux Live CD to format the HDD (which takes up a lot of time).

v803 works fine though, I don't suppose Synology has any objections if I upload that version for others to use? I'll try to get v844 to work in the mean time.

I have a CS-406 at work. It is sad that 731 firmware is its last firmware, while the home function in 8xx firmware is exactly what we need. It will be great 8xx firmware can somehow work on CS-406. Please let us know any progress, Alfredo. Thanks a lot.

Hi Alfredo, could you please post the steps that you followed so that owners of other '06 models could repeat, i have a 106e that I would like to run 844 on?

Many thanks.

Hi ryan

I've noticed Goetz is already working on it. I think he's more knowledgeable on this topic than me, so I think you should let him handle it. :)
If anyone wants to try the same thing for another device, I could post the complete steps though. They're probably similar.
