I download the iso and i burn the image onto a CD.
the result of the botable cd are 2 files:

so ... where is the firmware

Hi,

You will NEVER see the firmware, it is simply hidden.
Again, you have to BOOT on cd from your computer with drive to flash already connected.
More information if your are not familiar with this practice : How To Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Hi zouk,
thanks very much.

You are right, the firmware is in the cd.

This is the result of not test the burned cd.
I used ultraiso to see the image and as i couldn't see anything similar to flash.bat as is said in readme.txt,
i supposed the downloaded iso was not good.

Thanks for all.
I'll try when arrive at home.

Hi

I have also 5 x 1TB seagate NS series.
One of them after a power up was not recognized anymore. (fw SN05 bug)
I succesfully repaired using this solution: http://msfn.modrica.com/board/index.php ... 5&t=129551
This is specific for NS series and it works 100%. The only difference was that in my pcb some or the lines between the points were not the same, but the points are in same position. Warning!!! You must have knowledge about electronics.
Now i updated all to fw SN06.

Hi Franklin,

I am using the ST31500341AS, and with CS407e, I have got a problem that my syno will not response to it's windows share / web gui, but I can still ping it.... is it caused by "ejected" by the syno? where can I check to confirm?

btw, I have 3 CC1H and 1 SD1A to form a RAID5 system, please help me to confirm so I may be buy a x08 system. I just wonder if it's my x07 hardware problem (i.e. RAM/CPU) or not.

thanks.

Seagate .11 or ES.2 HDDs are not compatible with x07 products - it's a hardware incompatibility. No matter how much firmware is updated by the Seagate drive or the Synology system - it will not make the system more compatible. The problem is random drive ejection due to the Seagate drives consume more power at random intervals - this will cause the drive to be ejected by the Synology x07 system. You may attempt to use version 731 on your system to attempt to lower the probability of your system encountering a random drive ejection - however it will not negate the issue.

The Seagate firmware issue, which can cause the drive to be ejected from a RAID system is also a factor with the current string of RAID issues by Seagate drives.

--However--software aside - it still doesn't rule out that the hardware of the Synology x07 system and the Seagate .11/ES.2 drives are not compatible.

@cbarbara
Version 731 has updates which improve error handling with certain HDDs under certain conditions, Seagate .11/ES.2 Drives being the most to benefit from these new updates. It's recommended to update both the Seagate drive firmware and the Synology system firmware when available -- AND when you have a backup of all your data on your Seagate HDDs.

Hi All

I am having seagate drive, description as below.

ST31500341AS
PN# 9JU138-500
Firmware SD17

I am facing a lot of "Delayed Write Failed", I also tried using the drive with different OS like (XP, Vista and Linux) but same problem.
Is anyone else facing the same problem ? Is the firmware update available for this model ?

Please reply !

I'm using two ST31500341AS (purchased at the same time):

1x with SD17 firmware
1x with LC1A firmware

Zouk's post states
Zouk ! wrote:Drive Family : Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
Models Affected : ST31500341AS / ST31000333AS / ST3640323AS / ST3640623AS / ST3320613AS / ST3320813AS / ST3160813AS
Recommended Firmware Update : SD1B / SD2B*
    * Note: If your drive has CC or LC firmware, your drive is not affected and no further action is required. Attempting to flash the firmware of a drive with CC or LC firmware will result in rendering your drive inoperable.

However the seagate knowledge base makes no mention of the LC firmware anymore:
"Note: If your drive has CC firmware, your drive is not affected and no further action is required. Attempting to flash the firmware of a drive with CC firmware will result in rendering your drive inoperable."

I've had problems copying large files and folders to my DS-209+ (RAID 1) and streaming music (iTunes just... stops... for a while, for example) and yesterday the number two drive in the raid array (LC1A firmware) apparently crashed and I was unable to access anything until I completely reset and reinstalled the DS-209 software. I have repaired the degraded raid array, the array taking about 8 hours to resynchronise and I'll update the SD17 firmware this weekend.

However do I need to update the LC1A firmware?

Hi,

I think you misunderstood several things (which is not surprising since Seagate with their bad communication has confused a lot of people)
First, you have to understand that this topic is about a totally different problem : It's about dead drive
Freezing issue you're experimenting is a different problem.
So, yes, you have to update the SD17 one, no, you don't have to update the LC1A one.
The update will prevent to get one day a dead drive and it should, in theory, resolve your freezing problem since the latest firmware include also the fix for freezing drives. Your SD17 will be updated to SD1B.

About the LC mention, it seems that it have been removed by Seagate and I don't know why because I can't see any firmware update for LCxx revision. But this does not mean that you have to update the LC1A one, it will probably not work since a firmware revision does not change on a update (I mean, Seagate does not update like LC1A => SD1B).

Best Regards,
Zouk !

Postby mubbii » Sat Aug 22, 2009 1:38 pm

St3500320AS Firmware MX-15 it died yesterday..the 320 cycle phenomena ... i had abt 470GB of Data in it and now i cant access it and thats not even the sad part! 1 day later i had planned to burn all my data to DVD's. This 320 cycle [Please control your language] happened to me 24 hrs before i was planning to back up my data.
i have a question after searching hrs and hrs on various forums i found a guy from india also had a drive that stopped working but he swapped it in 2 or 3 differnet systems ..2 pcs didnt detect the HDD but the 3rd one did but showed it as 0GB...can i update my drive if it showedup in BIOS but with 0GB Capacity can a FIRMWARE update be done!

.
BEWARE: DON'T FULLY TRUST SEAGATE ARTICLE #207931 DRIVE TEST

This article claimed that my drive didn't need a new firmware (it checked my serial number).
BUT, according to this article there is a new firmware available. And obliviously it also need a new firmware because of it has crashed several times by now.

So beware, always manual check for a new firmware and don't fully trust that article if it says "No download available for this serial number." It could be false!
