DSM 2.1 for DS106

Postby dark_perfect » Mon Mar 23, 2009 3:08 pm

Quick question :

Why isn't the DSM 2.1 available for the DS106? As far as I can see, the hardware specifications for the 106 are better than that for the 106j, so why isn't it supported?

I was going to ask the same question about the mail station, so if someone feels like answering that one as well...

Thanks.

I want the latest firmware ver2.1-0835 on my DS-106e also. I would like to have the sub-folder privileges setting. Why you do not get this version for the old model??

I agree! It would very nice to have the newer versions in generally. I'm using a DS-106e an it seems no difference to a DS-107. Why it should not work?

I believe the company forgot to publish that 731 was the final update for the 106j, so synology (knowing they had done what they had done) had to Honor the request of many users.

They could easily make DSM 2.1-08?? for any of the 06 models.
I mean, if it can run on the 106j, it can run on the others too. (My own speculation)

If only, they would make a working and stable update for the 106e, I would be happy.

Are you stating that the firmware did not work when you bought the synology originally?
If so, why didnt you take it back to the shop, there's a law about trades description act
if the device did do all it said, and you wanted the updated firmware to work... it doesnt work like that. you have to buy another system for the updates.

it's know as work in progress.

All X06 owners are not fighting a losing battle, as the decision has been made... so in theory you are trying to fight a battle that has already happened and been berried.

No, since 728 my upload speed has been cut in half. And I have tried to start from scratch, and install a new drive which didn't help.
And there are many more problems. viewtopic.php?f=128&t=12237

I just wish, that Synology would do more bugfixing than bugputting. :?

How long, before it's all X07 owners. 6 months, 1 year?

What i am stating is when you bought your syno, it had a previous FW and all in that firmware worked correctly.
You had the choice to leave it as it was or take the risk of upgrading; and after upgrading it didnt meet your needs (have faults etc) you always have the option to downgrade i cant understand why you didnt if you felt the firmware was that much of a problem.
i used 832 got burned by the constant bugs then went back to 731.
What i'm saying is when you bought the device, it did what it said it would do and met your needs.

I agree with you, if you see in my signature with regard to the UPS and loss of config... i'm fairly annoyed about the bugs myself as are certain others.
832 was a total mess, so u didn't miss much. i don't know how the company messed up that much, i've been with them since April 2006 and never seen such a mess up

I'm already looking at the 509+!
i dont really care when it ends, as long as it's stable, and should the current FW what ever edition it is not be stable... ill go back to one that does.
My 106 is still happy, synology do quite a lot for me and many others... and even for you too as the firmware has been discontinued for your device, the support is still there should you require it!

Regards

Phill
