rtorrent port_range not working - always default?

Postby waffl » Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:48 am

Hi,
I have edited my ~/.rtorrent.rc and modified the port_range entry to my desired range. However, it just will not change. I've tried with or without random port on start, different ranges etc, and also entering a range as a command line flag with no luck - it always defaults to the default range 6880-6889.

What could possibly be going on?

Thanks in advance!

What version of rtorrent are you using?
What user is that rtorrent running under?

Hi,
Thanks for the response!

Strangely, when I do ipkg list, i get:

rtorrent - 0.7.9-2
rtorrent - 0.8.4-1

Then when I run rtorrent -h | grep version i get:
Rakshasa's BitTorrent client version 0.8.2.

So it's almost like there are somehow three versions of rtorrent installed?? All I've done is just ipkg install rtorrent. (brand new NAS)

I am running under root and have tried running as admin as well. (another side question is evidently - is it not a smart idea to run as root?)

Thanks!

I'm guessing you have 0.7.9-2 installed from optware ipkg, and 0.8.2 is from Synology.
To see which ipkg you have installed, use "ipkg list_installed rtorrent".
Use "ipkg update; ipkg install rtorrent libtorrent" to upgrade optware rtorrent to the latest.
The user that rtorrent running under is important, since it would only look at the corresponding home dir for that user.
Use /opt/bin/rtorrent if you want to use the optware version. I'm pretty sure port_range is working in optware rtorrent.
Ideally you should create a non-root user and use that one instead.

Thank you! Yes that worked - running from /opt/bin, rtorrent is reporting version 0.8.4 and the port_range is indeed working from the config file now.

Thanks a lot!
