package (spk) SABnzbd

Postby merty » Thu Nov 06, 2008 5:00 pm

Hi everyone,

Thanks to the testers of both the international and the dutch forum, I'm proud to announce the latest package: SABnzbd 0.4.5RC2 installer.
This package will install and run SABnzbd on the synology diskstations. SABnzbd is a fully automatic newsposting downloader, including packing out rars or zips and checking them against par files. At the moment, the latest release, 0.4.5RC2, will be used, updates will follow as soon as the final version 0.4.5 is there..
This package contains python and all modules and programs to run sabnzbd. It will not interfere with any other SABnzbd installation or any other packages, either 3rd party or ipkg 'optware'. All programs are installed under one unique separate directory and can be removed by pressing 'uninstall' from the packagemanager.

Download: http://www.mertymade.com/syno/index.html#sabnzbd (make sure you pick the right one for your type of diskstation !)

Regards,

Remco

*EDIT* 0.4.5 Final version is finally arrived. Packages are updated with these new version

*EDIT2* 0.4.6 Final already there, new location

Allright,

SABnzbd+ 0.4.5 Final is released. All packages are updated with this version. There is also an update package for the people who downloaded the previous version. The update is much smaller to down- & upload and will keep your current configuration.

*EDIT* The package for ARM cpu's wasn't uploaded completely to my server. Installation gave error "invalid package". This time, the whole package is there and shouldn't be giving any problems.

sabnzbd

Postby swaz » Thu Nov 13, 2008 10:13 am

Hi,

I have installed the latest version of sabnzd on to my synology ds108j, which appears to be working great. The only problem is I can not see any downloaded files? I expected to see them in the public area by default but nothings there. I also have not no luck setting the dir paths to make any download files visible, any help appreciated. Is there anyway of browsing the entire synology drive?

Also I have set up external access so I can log in and download via my iphone. Again it's all working correctly and I see sabnzbd fine but the option to add an file is unavailable. Do I need to unblock any extra ports?

Many Thanks....

Ok, you are not the first one to ask.
First of all, SABnzbd uses by -default- a download directory under the directory it runs in or under the home directory of the user (if not running as deamon). In the case of my SABnzbd package, default will be /var/packages/sabnzbd/target/sab/downloads/. SABnzbd is made for a wide range of computer environments which do have their own directory structures and security the user should know about. Don't expect the program 'knows' about shares and Synology Diskstations. All directories used as default values are internal directories of the diskstation, not accessible from the "outside" via shares. Therefore, it is recommended to change the directory settings after installation to a share / directory of your choice. In SABnzbd, go to config->folders and fill in at least "Completed Download Folder" field.

So, how to find the 'real' directory for the share you are using ? Simple, all shares do map to a structure like / + volume name + / + share name (+ directories under this share). Volume names can be volume1,volume2, ... volume5 . If you don't know which share resides on which volume, check the 'Privileges' -> 'Shared Folders' info in the Web Admin page. Example: I have a 'Downloads' share on the volume 'volume1' and in the downloads share I do have a directory 'SABdownloads', the correct directory to fill in will be : /volume1/Downloads/SABdownloads .

Finally, what to do with the files already downloaded in an 'inaccessible' directory ? For that, you have to:
1. log-in as root (same password as admin for Web Admin) using ssh or telnet.
2. On the command line type:
Code: Select all
mv /whatever/directory/your/downloads/are/now/* /whatever/directory/your/downloads/should/be/.
<= dont forget the '.' here
(Example: mv /var/packages/sabnzbd/target/sab/downloads/complete/* /volume1/Downloads/SABdownloads/.
3. If you have an 'access denied' when trying to read them via the share type:
Code: Select all
chmod -R 777 /whatever/directory/your/downloads/should/be/*

4. logout, typing 'exit' or just pressing ctrl-d

I think that in future updates of my SABnzbd+ package, I will look for a way of pre-configuring the directories to a more general sharename, however, the question is, what sharename is always present on the Disktations ? Someone has any thoughts about it ?

Remco, thanks for the info and detailed reply. All working fine now. Congrats on a great rebuild of sabnzbd, installation was completely painless and hassle free, had it up and running in no time.

For future releases, couldn't you just set the path to a default value i.e. /volume1/public/downloads/complete? Even if the path is slightly wrong most people could adjust form there?

Do you have any experience of using sabnzbd with iphones? Got an issue with the add file being unavailable. I know iphones don't support nzb file format so it could be this or it could be an config / router / port issue. Not really sure. I think rss nzb access would work but I need to read up on this since I never downloaded in this way before. Once I sort this out can download anywhere, anytime from the iphone, which was the main reason for getting the synology setup. Any tips or advice?

Very nice package!

Much faster to update, install / reinstall Sabnzbd+ this way :)

btw, how about adding the sabnzbd+ link to the 3rd party applications list?
I normally do this myself.

Well, I'm no expert in this, I don't know how the RSS feature is soppesed to work, this is a SABnzbd+ thing on its own, but my guess is that it doesn't 'like' the RSS format it gets (no 'normal' links in items). If you really want to know what this error means, maybe you have to check the forum of SABnzbd themselves..

This works like a charm, thank you very much Merty for your efforts in creating this package ! Now I just have to figure out how to create a post-processing script that will send my downloaded file to my box via ftp....

btw, how about adding the sabnzbd+ link to the 3rd party applications list?

I don't know this list either... But I'm really interested if someone aggregated all available packages.

It's just the same way as you would access your diskstation web interface or admin pages. Check that hostname or ip adress and go directly to http://whateverhostnameyouhave:9200/sabnzbd

Update:

New version of 'normal' package (version 0.5):
* Fixes 'kernel oops/fgrep' problem some might have seen in messagelog
* Create default SABnzbd directory in public share for downloads/incomplete, for people that don't know how to set the directories right

Also new version of update package, this package will upgrade all previous ones (including the previous mentioned one) to version 0.4.6RC2, for the 'early-bird testers' ;) Please note this is a Release Candidate, there might be imperfections in it and debugging is enabled (making it slower/longer log files)

You can still find them at:
