Poweroff or reboot NOT working

Postby Val3r10 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 5:19 pm

... since beta 0634, as reported here: viewtopic.php?f=93&t=8666

In other words, both poweroff and reboot shell commands (telnet or ssh) don't work at all.

I understand it was a short beta testing, but this point hasn't been fixed yet.
And it was introduced within 06xx builds.

Thanks for any answer or workaround, until a future real solution.
I wouldn't be obliged to apply the bootstrap hack to get such basic commands correctly working.
Thank you

Re: Poweroff or reboot NOT working

Hi,

I get a similar problem!!

Last night, my 407 stops working (HDD leds on but don't blink, status led ok, and Lan led blink).
Now the problem, is that I can't swith it off with the blue button and the syno is unaccessible from the lan...

So I unplug the power cable and the syno comes bach online after about 5-10 min and then hangs again after a few minutes...

If someone has an idea...

[Edit]

I think I have get my syno working!!
So I unplug the power cable, then wait 10 min for the reboot... then quickly cancel the torrent downloads (last thing done before hang) and reboot!!
And now the syno is working... In the download list somme errors has appeared!!! so I canceled them and now everythings is allright.

I will try do download again to see if it's makes the syno hang again...

For Val3r10:
Your GS605 is jumbo frame (9000), so you can us it with your syno!! I don't know what computer you have, but now gigabit card with jumbo frame are not expensive. But maybe it's your choice to not use it...
UPS APC Smart UPS 1500
------------>Livebox -> Netgear GS105 (Gigabit, Jumbo Frames desactivated because makes hang)

Update: WITH the bootstrap hack, poweroff sometime works, reboot never!

More, reboot locks-up the diskstation DS-106e with the ambra led always blinking. It won't shut down even with the 5+ seconds button pressed ...

Without the hack, such commands don't work at all, as above described.

FINAL 0637 firmware, as said.
Thanks

Greetings all

Please check your firmware installation, or install any and all 3rd party software. I've checked this against 3 different models and poweroff and reboot are working fine.

Thanks for your point, Franklin.
My experience with DS-106e.

Those commands drop services and diskstation quit responding (web admin, telnet, ftp, ssh and so on), sometimes with ping still responding, but it locks-up with the blue led on and the green flashing.
Sometimes I have to manually power it off with 5-secs button pressure, sometimes I had to remove the power wall plug !!!

History:

I first installed beta 0634 on previous 05xx and begun experiencing such poweroff / reboot problem. Never had before. Reported in proper beta support section.

Then I installed from scratch fw 0637 final on a new HDD, same disk station (I would try some experiment...). Same problem, actually only reboot sometimes worked with the original posture. Randomly. Poweroff never!
No hacks, SSH flag enabled only (I don't like telnet very much ;) ... wireless network)

Finally I enabled the bootstrap hack, because someone told ipkg made those commands working fine. Not for me. Poweroff sometimes works, but now reboot seems a self-destruction command, as I do need to remove the power supply to obtain some response...

That's all...

IMH point of view, something changed in the busybox shell since 06xx version...

Thank you.

In the meantime of a version upgrade which hopefully fix this bug, is there any IPKG package I could install to get the standard shutdown linux command ?
(to gain the -F(sck) option too... ;))

Thanks

I've just installed the 0640 firmware on my DS-106e and still have this problem. The only addition I have installed is the Synology SSH patch, nothing else. When I use the poweroff command the SSH session is closed and the Diskstation looses all connectivity but does not shutdown. I have to manually press the power button to get a shutdown. This also affected the 0637 firmware.

Same problem here. 106e with 2.0-0640 firmware.

Cheers

I tried step by step from scratch and clean install.
Reboot & poweroff sometimes work, sometimes don't, until I install the bootstrap hack.
Then they don't work any more.

Even the web gui buttons for restart give up working, now...

Very weird and unpredictable behavior...

In the meantime SynoTeam diagnose & solve this random problem, my own workaround.

to put aliases (or /sbin/... executable scripts) like these:
Code: Select all
alias poweroff=halt
alias reboot='killall init'
alias rebooTTY='echo -n "CCCC" > /dev/ttyS1'

This way, the web-interface reboot/poweroff buttons came back working too...
They probably use same hooks/commands of the terminal interface.
