Compatible USB Printers

I'm actually using an OLD laserjet 4l (which is a parallel printer) with a generic Parallel -> USB converter. To the NAS, it reports it as "usbprinter", but works perfectly with the appropriate drivers forced in Windows.

Note: Synology only supports POSTSCRIPT printers for Macintosh Systems. Please verify that your printer is PostScript capable if you are using a Macintosh!

Non-PostScript printer Brother HL-5130 attached to DS-106j works fine with OS X 10.5 (Leopard) with Gutenprint drivers.

I have both a pc and a macbook on my network. I am using the Synology DS108j.
This has been a long and arduous task getting everything accessible on this server. I feel I am almost there, except for the printers.

My husbands PC can see his Lexmark Z605 on the Server. It prints intermittently wirelessly. I should say occasionally.

My mac can't "see" my HP Deskjet 3845 and can't seem to use it. I don't mind if I can only use one printer, but so far, I haven't been able to use either one. Also, the mac interface for synology doesn't have the "add printer" option on the Control Panel but can detect that the HP is connected to the SErver. Please help!

Do I just need to get a new PC/Mac printer?

So far I have been unable to get my Lexmark Z645 to work (firmware 728). I did use the the recommended installation option 3 i.e. using the LPR port. I do use the Lexmark Z640 series driver. I have tried different Print processor settings including the one mentioned for the Z705 user reported printer which seems to work. I continue to get the message that the PC can not communicate with the printer. I assume it is this bidirectional nature of the communication which is not supported by Synology.
Unless some bright person provides me a solution I would like to ask someone with access to the WIKI to report my findings there.
