Hi!!

I've got a cs406e just installed and setup today.

I'm currently running DSM version DSM 2.0-0731. What's the best way to upgrade to 3.1 or whatever the latest version available is? 2.0 >>>> 2.2 and then >>>> 3.1 ?

Wouldn't mind being a guinea pig and trying out beta firmwares that anyone makes.

I have nothing to lose either I guess!

Yep, that's the correct order. There are no new versions currently available.

I'm on 3.1 now which allows me to configure my storage in RAID 10, which the other versions didn't allow I believe.

I think might just stick to this version now, unless v4 is released :)

That's the plan. Don't hold your breath though, it's proven more difficult than I thought. I currently can't get the upgrade to work and I don't know why.

I may need to try 3.2 first instead of immediately going for 4.0.

3.2 seems to be working fine, now let's see if I can get 4.0 working as well.

I did not. I just managed to brick my device when flashing 4.0. Not sure what went wrong, but the NAS refuses to boot. After about a minute, is just shuts down again automatically. Hopefully there's a way to undo whatever happened.

I'll upload a copy once I figure this mess out.

Thanks. Just wanted to know which model to select on the Synology for when I need to download Packages for the NAs e.g. phpMyAdmin Wordpress etc

What write speeds do you guys get when transferring files to your NAS drive? I only get around 6 MB/s average on my cs406e, regardless of it being in RAID 0 or 1, or even just a normal basic setup. I've got a 1 gig network set up at home for those wondering

Write speeds definitely aren't great, but should be faster than what you're seeing. Maybe the new firmware is more resource intensive though?

@Alfredo: Hello Sir,

Sorry for the late response! I was away on vacation...

Were you able to get the 3.1 working on the RS-406? :) Another question I had was, is this in any way possible to brick the unit?

Thanks!

There is always the chance to brick your device!

This all is at your own risk and Alfredo can not be held responsible if something goes wrong!

Therefore you also can not get support from Synology too, all at your own risk 8)

But I have very GOOD experience from Alfredo builds :D
