Looking at this thread (

http://www.synology.com/support/faq_sho ... u&q_id=408) it seems that any Synology NAS with an eSATA port can recognise a DX unit.
However, unless your NAS is specifically designed to be connected to a DX unit, it will suffer three disadvantages:
1. You can only form an independent volume on the DX unit (rather than expand the internal volume on the Diskstation).
2 It will not be able to automatically power on the DX unit (it will power it down though). I suspect this is a software issue that Synology could implement in the firmware.
Can anyone confirm?3. You won't be able to physically "lock" the eSATA cable to the units together. As can be seen in the picture below, the locking feature is both a cable and a faceplate issue. The 210+ does not have the holes either side of the connector. I don't think many people will be bothered by the absence of this feature...
