Hiding Applications from Users

Postby m1e1w1 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 3:16 am

How can I remove the icons in non admin profiles, that are in the top left dropdown menu?
I have read that logged in as admin, with control panel open, you just drag the icon to the control panel window to remove it. This does not work for me. When I drag plex there, it shows the red remove icon, then I log into a regular user account and plex is still in the drop down menu.

I would like to know this as well. I have a basic user with login permission for AudioStation yet they are able to see and access my Sabnzb and Sickbeard programs through the icons? Is there any way to hide them or delete from that users profile?

I did a search on the forum here and apparently these type of questions do not get answered. Will check other non-official forums to see if I can find the answer. Frustrating to say the least

Hiding Applications from Users

Postby Gilley7997 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 10:41 pm

I had just installed phpBB and phpMyAdmin on the Synology.

I noticed that there is no Application Control for these under the Applications Access options. I logged in as a standard user, and noticed the the shortcut for these applications is available to all users.

I'm not to concerned with the phpBB one, as it just launches the bulletin board, but I would like to hide the phpMyAdmin application shortcut from the regular users. I just don't see a need for them to have this access at all.

Thanks in Advance!

i have transmission and plex server installed on my ds1511+, and when i login as "friend" (with file station access granted) i still can see those apps.
i dont want my friends to play around with my apps, i just want to give them some space to share files.

can we hide them?

I asked syno team and their reply is
"The applications you've mentioned are third party applications not developed by Synology. Unfortunately the DSM user setting will not be able to manage those applications. "

Diss appointing, so if anyone know how to hide 3rd party from non admin user please share

It is possible to set pw in transmission. or you can use download station. that uses transmission.

for plex it is only access via lan without a plex token.(from myplex)

Yeah, I have the same issue. All of my users can see SABnzd, Sickbeard, and CouchPotato in the Main Menu. They are password protected apps, but I still only want them to see Audio Station, not the others.

Is there no solution?

i have just created a user, and they too can see the icons but the funny thing is they can't see my other apps except for sickbeard, couchpotatoserver, sabnzbd & subsonic. i am also on the latest firmware. if some apps are hidden, i am sure the others can be hidden too.

I'm just looking for an answer here, do apps need to be written so that on install they are available for admins only or all accounts?
Is it possible to get a feature to show whatever or hide whatever apps we want as admin option?

I'm using a DS1512 in a work environment and was hoping that Synology had developed a solution to hide the program launching icons for Phpmyadmin and Drupal from users. I like to have some users access File Station, but nothing else.
