Same problem here
Synology ds409RP+ and Black armor WS110

i had to disable both Usb hibernation (on the synology and on the drive with the free agent)

the s.m.a.r.t setting are also unavailable on this drive (either by synology or free agent)

i formated the usb with ext4 which is faster than ntfs3g driver and does not cause 100% cpu when backuping.

despite these problems , the synology dsm3 is a great product.
i'm looking forward to the final release of the "time-machine" plugin

cheers

I hooked up a Western Digital Elements Desktop 2TB (Model # WDBAAU0020HBK) to my DS-209+ yesterday.
It works fine, even under NTFS.

For the moment I'm keeping it in that file format, until I decide to leave it centralized with the NAS, or connect it directly to my HTPC.

Model: DS212 (1.6GHz - 256MB)
Firmware: DSM 4.1-2668
RAID1: 2 x WesternDigital Caviar Green 3TB (WD30EZRX-00MMMB0)
Network: Allied Telesis AT-GS900-16 with 9K jumbo frames
Backup: Sharkoon SATA QuickDeck Pro USB3 + Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 3TB (ST3000DM001)

Sold: DS209+ with 2 WD 1TB GreenPower disks

Hi,

I have DS210J using DSM 3.1-1742 with a Zalman ZM-MH200-U3 usb enclosure setup using 2 Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB drives setup in raid 0 (striping) and backed up 1.4TB of data with no problems.

Also trying an Icy Box IB-RD4320StUS2 enclosure with the same hard drives with the same raid setup and all seems to work fine as well.

Brand: Western Digital
Model: My Book Essential USB3, P/N: WDBACW0020HBK-01
Brand: Western Digital
Model: Green ???
Capacity: 2TB
Model: DS211J
DSM: 3.1-1742
eSata/USB: USB2
Natively: Yes
Synology assisted:
Reported by: nubyOz
YYYY.MM: 2011.07
Notes: ext4, formatted by DS211J. Transfer speed about 24MBytes/s, initally seems to 'eject' after 10 minutes during 400GB backup, in line with drive Sleep time and USB hibernation time. After drive sleep and DS USB hibernation was turned off 'ejects' were more random, 10 minutes to about 1 hour. Swapped WD drive into a FreeAgent USB2 enclosure and controller. Backup works with no problems.
DS211J running DSM-4.1 Build 2647
Two WD2002FAEX (replaced my Green WD20EARS with the Caviar blacks WD2002FAEX after failures), formatted EXT4.
Back up important files to Seagate FreeAgent Enclosure with 2TB WD drive inside formatted as EXT4.

I am using DS712+ with the Hornettek 2x Rack "陣":
http://www.cdsonline.com.hk/Product/HDD%20Enclosure/Hornettek/3.5/X2-RACK/X2-RACK.htm

I installed 2 Hitachi 4TB (HDS724040ALE640) 7200rpm Disks, running in RAID 0:

Note:
"RAID 0", "RAID 1" and "JBOD" are OK. "Multiplier" setup only allows the first disk to work.

Hello,
Compatible External Hard Disk Drive: Seagate ST3300601CB-RK External 200 GB Hard Drive,
part no. 9W2874-560, USB2 (also has firewire), bought in year 2006; Seagate sold these as external drive with HD installed with power adaptor to plug in(not portable), formatted NTFS years ago,
using Windows 7 now. No hibernation is apparent in the Ext HDD, but Synology does hibernate.
Disk Manager DSM 4.2-3211;
Synology Diskstation 1512+ with three HDDs;
This Seagate external drive is seven years old and was already formatted NTFS when I connected it up to my Diskstation and it had data on it. The Diskstation reads it just fine and writes a file from the Seagate to another folder using File Station, and I have retrieved that file onto my desktop HDD.
Thanks, Debra

Using: Synology Diskstation 1512+ ;
Three Western Digital Red 3TB HDDs ;
Netgear D6200 Router/Modem via DSL;
Netgear A6200 USB WIFI adaptor to reach ac speed(when wireless).

External HDD That WORKS with Synology:

External HDD: LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ triple: 1.5TB, model 301200U, has USB2, (firewire), powered by AC adaptor
Synology Diskstation 1512+ (with three Western Digital 3 TB red HDDs)
DSM firmware 4.2-3211
Windows 7
This external HDD was bought in about 2007, formatted with NTFS at that time. It connects fine to my Diskstation and shows up fine as external disk; and can read and write from the Synology. I copied a file from it to the Synology and thence to my internal HDD and it was fine. These two units work fine. Not sure about LaCie hibernation.
Thanks, Debra
