Access discs after DS crash

Postby FinnK » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:28 pm

Hi

My DS crashed.
Now I have bought a new DS 4 bay and 4 new discs.
I have created a RAID 5 on the new DS with new discs.

In the old DS was two discs and both with no RAID at all.

How can I access the data on those discs and get it to the new DS?

Can I put the disc in a usb-stand and connect it to the DS USB port and then the new DS can read the data?

This should work, yes.
If not, read the data with a PC and a ext3 driver or use a linux distribution (live cd).

I did that.

I can see a lot of directories, but not my data from any of the discs.

I have tried to install Ext2Fsd on my Win7. But with no luck.
Windows can't access the partitions.

The you were not looking onto the right partition. Linux should give you 3 partition, the first contains the system files (folders like /var /usr/ /etc) and the 3rd should contain your data.

When pluged the disc into the DS USB port there is only one partition visible. That containes the system files.

With Ext2Fsd installed on Win7 I can see the data partition, but i can not access it.
It also show that 100% of the patition is used.

All data is being saved in these very moments.

I installed the two old discs in the new DS.
Now I can get the data out to other discs with NTFS partitions.

Next job is to install the new discs back in the new DS and then copy the data to the new DS.

I don't like the idea of having data on discs that is not compatible with comon discsystems when things goes wrong... :(
But when it works it's ok... :-)

It is a Linux system, simplest and logical way to read the data is a linux distribution.
