DS410 - network adapter for USB 2 to Ethernet Gigabit

Postby nicolasdiogo » Sat Jun 02, 2012 10:08 am

Hello,

i would like to find out if there is any point in buying an Ethernet Gigabit adapter for my DS410.

the product is described here:
Belkin F5D5055-KIT Gigabit USB 2.0 Network Adapter
http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5599162/B ... oduct.html

would this work?
would it be understood by the GUI? or will it be configured from the CLI only?

many thanks,

Nicolas

Hi

I can see no point, the DS410 has gigabit lan already. See here:

http://www.synology.com/products/spec.p ... #p_submenu

If you can't see gigabit 'speeds' or the DSM stating it's connected to gigabit and it's telling you it's connected at 10/100 ethernet then check that your network switch or hub and computer is actually gigabit! Unless your ethernet port on your Synology is broken for some reason and it's dead?

thanks Mark,

but i have a virtualized environment and i am trying to split the management network (VLAN) from the other regular traffic.

so i would use the new NIC-USB to connect the management of Synology.

is this type of adapter understood by the OS in Synology? is it accepted by the GUI?

with regards,

Hi,

I did not know that, and I don't even know what a virtualized environment is, so I will step back!

Good luck

I second that question. Would I be able to buy a DS112, insert an additional USB GBit-LAN dongle, and use it as a router?
The software is there, there are models with 2 LAN's (eg 712+) but they are too big/loud/hungry, a DS112 would suffice for a router, if we could add a second LAN via USB?

Hi,

Raising an old thread but did you ever get an answer to this ?

I too have a DS410 and this question has just popped in to my head but for a slightly different reason.

With the release of DSM 4.2 i switched my dhcp server role to the DS to make use of the PXE server which works but obviously i need to use an Ethernet connection to boot to it, however i dont always have the DS on and have been caught out a couple of times with no DHCP - I know i could use static IPs but i would rather have things automated for any new / temp clients.

I wanted to retain the ability to use my PXE server but use my always on routers DHCP server - going through available options i can see that the PXE/DHCP server config on the DS offers an interface selection - if i could have a second NIC and selected this as the PXE enabled DHCP interface i could still run my routers DHCP and have a dedicated link for performing PXE boots.

So did you find anything ? If not i will have to try one when im back at home, i have a usb NIC kicking around somewhere , just didnt want to waste my time if someone already has the answer and it very well could be you !

Thanks !
