Will this external harddrive and router work with DS212j

Postby Dead_Silent » Fri May 25, 2012 9:48 am

Hi,

I'm about to buy a DS212j, and at the same time I will buy a 4G/3G router and harddrives (2 internal and 1 external). And I wonder if any of you have any experience with these products.

1. Router: Dovado DOMA. A router just released, do you think it will work with DS212j?

2. Western Digital My Passport Essential 2TB USB3.0 WDBY8L0020BBK. Can DS212j provide USB power to small external harddrives like this?

Hope anyone can help me out! Thanks!

The router support Port forwarding so it should work fine, but the one problem is that it only has 10/100 Mbit ports, so you wont reach the transfer speeds, that you would expect, between other devices, and it has only 1 wireless network, and the speed is always set by the slowest connecting device, so if you have a device that connect with 802.11g (54 Mbit) then that's the speed you have and your devices share this speed, so that don't leave much speed to work with.

Why not go the extra mile and get something like this

Thanks for your feedback! I know almost nothing about routers, so your help is very appreciated!
The router you suggest looks awesome, but the problem is that I need a router that support a 3G/4G-modem (because that's the only internet connection I can use at the moment), and I don't think that the Asus RT-N56U supports that.

I found another router from Dovado called 4GR:

Hardware Interfaces
* 2 x USB2.0 ports (for full power to USB modem)
* 4 x 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN ports
* 1 x 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet WAN port
* 802.11b/g/n 300 Mbps WLAN Access Point
* 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz, power switching adaptor
* 12VDC, 2A input port in 4GR

Internal Features
* NAT router with DHCP server
* Supports a wide range of USB modems
* Quick Setup Wizard (Video tutorial available)
* Connection Tracker (keeping your internet connection alive)
* Appoint Ethernet WAN port or USB modem to be primary internet connection.
* Automatic backup between internet connections.
* SMS Mailbox (not with all 3G modems, and not working on 4G networks/modems)
* SMS Remote Control
* SMS Event Notification
* GPS Tracking
* Remote Wake-on-LAN (WOL)
* Home Automation via TellStick
* Mobile Internet Traffic Consumption Notification via SMS
* Connection Status Overview bar
* Dynamic DNS services (DynDNS.com, No-IP.com, FreeDNS.Afraid.org, any 3rd party)
* Remote Access/Upgrade
* Port-Forwarding
* UPnP
* VPN Pass-through
* SPI-Firewall
* MAC Address Filtering for WLAN
* WEP 64/128 bit encryption
* WPA1/2-PSK
* WPA1/2 Enterprise (to be used with a RADIUS server)
* Backup/Restore configuration
* Telnet API interface for 3rd party applications

Is this the same problem as with the Dovado Doma?

Hi

That's a better solution that the first Dovado router.

But just so you know the Asus router do support USB modem's, so depending of the prize, and amount of WIFI clients, there is an advantage with the 2 networks on the Asus router.
