How do you make folder it root?

I don't want it to be a shared folder.

Hi

Per standard you can't, but just create a folder, then right click on it in File Station chose properties and set the rights accordingly to your needs, or use the Privileges setup button in Shared folder to do the same.

You understand that if it's not a shared folder, no one will be able to remotely access and use it, right? Think of the shared folders, not as folders, but as the network disk drives of your DiskStation. They each have their own "root" level. That said, you can certainly use the Linux command line to create a non-shared subdirectory under volume1. DSM won't see it though.

Yes. It was mean to be a local (as in, on the NAS) folder.

You're welcome. Make sure to keep backup copies of that folder in case it gets deleted in a DSM update.
