DMS 4.0 - join of AD not possible

Postby confidelis » Fri Mar 16, 2012 12:05 am

I'am very confused. Are you not able to test like you have to or aren't you interested in business customers? Since DSM 4.0 it is not able to join a Windows 2008 Domain. As i remeber, we had the same problem from 2.3 to 3.0 or 3.0 to 3.1 (not sure anymore).

What I did:
Two new 1512+. NAS1: 192.168.7.41 / NAS2: 192.168.7.42, Gateway: 192.168.7.1, DNS: 192.168.3.2 (DC although 192.168.3.2).
Install NAS1 with 4.0, try to join the domain, ERROR.
Install NAS2 with 3.2, try to join the domain, OK. Look if I am able to see the users & groups from domain, OK. Update to 4.0 - still OK.

So, why i am not able to join the domain with NAS1? Why I am not allowed to downgrade? (because then I can do same like with NAS2)

For luck I was able to test this on non productive NAS. What to do if I am not able to test this - we don't have unused NAS anytime - and upgrade the firmware from a productive NAS and get problems like this? No one would be able to access the NAS and I am not able to downgrade to go back to the stable version.

Rgds,

Guido

I've a similar issue.
Since I update to 4.x, I'm intermittently unable to access to my shares. The synology is on domain but some time when I look the domain config I show an error saying that the domain is not found. After a few minute it's ok but users can't access.
Some times, users got access, some times not.

The support tell me to put it out the domain, cleaning the AD Object and put in the domain again. I do with out success. I've tried with FQDN name, Netbios Name, ...

When synology while understand that they are a problem and correct it ??

Hello
I have RS812 with DSM 4.0-2198
And I'm unable to join 2008 R2 Active directory.
It just returns join domain fail with no specific error number.

Maybe some additional config need to be done? I've checked few posts that offer to Allow Cryptographic Algorithms Compatible with NT4.0
But I would like to know if there any other solution before asking for the changes from Enterprise admins.

Upgraded to DSM 4.0, lost ADS integration

Postby m_later » Wed May 23, 2012 11:52 pm

I just installed DSM 4.0 today. After installing, none of my domain users can access shared folders. I went in to the permissions and the users are clearly there and shown as having permission, but when I try to browse to the share I get a login prompt and a failure when using my domain permissions.

I did notice that in the Directory Service control panel that my Domain Server Type is listed as "NT4 Domain". I'd swear this used to be something different like "AD DOmain". How can I get it back to full AD integration and working with my user logins? I tried removing from domain and re-joining but no luck there.

I too have this problem. When browsing the network I can see the DiskStation but when i try to access it i am asked for my domain username and password and I should not be as I am logged into the domain already. Anyways, I enter my credentials and i still can't access the DiskStation.

But... if I wait a few minutes and try again then i can access the Diskstation.

This has to be a bug.. not good. Shows how little Synology must test these things out.

I am having a similar problem. DS411j running DSM 4.0-2228
I am connected to a windows 2003 AD Domain just fine. Users can access shared folders and all the AD permissions are properly working. Then all of a sudden The NON ADMIN users (of the domain) get locked out of the shared folders they use to have access to. Windows throws an error about not having permissions. If I reboot the diskstation the problem resolves itself and the user doesn't even have to log out of windows, they just regain their proper permission credentials once the diskstation comes back online.

This seems to point to something buggy in the diskstations ability to maintain permission tables to the AD Domain server. What is really odd is that the administrator accounts on the domain do not get effected when this occurs.

I am considering down grading to DSM 3.2 if it is possible in order to see if the problem goes away.

There is none. DSM 4.0-2198 is the initial firmware for your model.
