Confused about iSCSI vs NAS

Postby pessable » Thu Sep 22, 2011 5:15 pm

I'm a bit confused about the steup of my DS211j. I have configured the Diskstation with a iSCSI target. This is working fine and I am able to copy files to the DS with no problems.

Now I've come to backup my data on the DS to an external USB device. The USB device is seen fine from DSM, but my data which I can see over the iSCSI is not visible. I can create a shared folder which I can backup to the USB, but what I really want to do is backup the data that was saved via iSCSI, but I can't see it from DSM.

It's almost as if there are seperate NAS and iSCSI volumes! I'm really confused. How do I backup my iSCSI drive to the external USB?

In DSM - Backup and Restore click on the arrow located just on the right of "create", then choose "LUN backup" and follow the wizard.
