Creating Transmission User

Postby superjoshism » Wed May 16, 2012 6:49 am

I've racked my brains and searched the forums/google and have come up with nothing so here goes,

I'm looking to set a user/password for access to transmission's web interface.

I have SAB/CP/SickBeard all running on my NAS and I've configured them all with username/password login requirements.

The reason I need it for Transmission also is because I have forwarded the ports on my router so I can add torrents etc when I'm not home, and I don't particularly want any joe blow to be able to get into my transmission webUI :P

edit: I am using the packages from the SynoCommunity repository if thats any help.

Has anybody been able to do this?

The easiest way is to stop Transmission and change/add some lines in Transmission's configuration : settings.json
It's location probably depends on how you installed it. I also have the SynoCommunity 2.50 package and the file is here :
/volume1/@appstore/transmission/var/settings.json

These are the lines you need :

"rpc-authentication-required": true,
"rpc-password": "YourPassword",
"rpc-username": "YourName",

you can type the password in plain text, it will be encrypted when you start Transmission again.

Ok I'll give it a go, although I'm hopeless at vi, I find it unbearable to use. Be nice if synocommunity ported nano to synology... :wink:

Thanks

If you don't like to Telnet/SSH and use vi, you could install a package called Config File Editor :
http://www.mertymade.com/syno/#cfe
Merty's repository is here : http://packages.mertymade.com/

Just install it, start it and change CFE's own configuration to include this line :
/usr/local/transmission/var/settings.json,Transmission
stop/start and now you can edit Transmission's settings with a 'normal' editor :wink:

EDIT: the path is a symlink to the path I mentioned earlier !
