Hi All -
I just upgraded from a DS410 to a DS1512+. I migrated my 4 drives into the 1512+ (2x1.5tb & 2x1tb) and everything is working. I now want to add a 2TB drive to the 5th slot. I thought that because it was larger then the others it would work fine, but the manger doesn't allow me to expend with it.
I have it set up using the Hybrid Raid System.
Anyone know why that would be or how I could use that 2TB drive?
Thanks!
Dan

that should work
can you talk us through what you are doing?
you have your working 4 disk SHR volume in there - then you added a 5th disk
then you go into disk manager and confirm it can see the disk? then go to manage your voilume - c;lick on manage, then expand? then what happens?
i *THINK* you may need to replace the largest disk in your current array for this to work, i.e. remove one of your 1.5tb ones and replace it with a 2tb one and let it rebuild.

Thanks for the reply. I did exactly what you mentioned above. When I put in the 2TB drive into the 5th slot it shows up in the manager as "Not Initialized". I then go to manage and the "Expand" option is grayed out. The only option I can choose is "Expand the volume with unallocated disk space", which is not what I need to do.
Now I do have one drive that is failing the SMART test. It's still running, but I haven't swapped it out yet. Would that be an issue?
Any ideas?

have you got multiple volumes on your raid?
i think the reason you cant expand your raid is because your volume is not yet taking up all the space on your raid (since it is not yet greyed out)which it usually should be
what happens if you expand your volume to use the unallocated space on your raid?
i had an issue where it did that - thought it about it for 20 minutes, then dropped back to where it was
in the end synology had to manually log into my box and expand the volume, before i could go back to normal

and i dont know about the smart test - but its possible its freezing you out of doing any reshaping while your drive is dying - even with raid and just doing an expansion if a drive died during that process, it could be bad

I tried expanding it and it didn't change the space allocation at all. I am going to try to talk to Synology to see what is going on and ill report back if they can solve it. Thanks for the help!
