DS212J Setup Issue - Moving 2tb data across from external hd

Postby boomhaueruk » Mon May 07, 2012 12:11 am

Hi,

Just bought my DS212j.
2x3tb drives installed, brand new, DSM 4 installed.
All seems fine.

I initially freaked out a little as I'm migrating from an HFS formatted 2tb external that contains all the files. One borrowed (brand new) 2tb drive external, one copy of NTFS for OSX and carbon copy cloner later and I have an NTFS version of the 2tb of data I want to move onto the 212j.

So I can't find an option to just 'clone' the drive. So instead I start a file transfer, selecting all the folders and saying 'copy'.
This seems to work for a while - 17% (about 300gb) elapsed. Then it stops. And didn't move.

I cancelled the operation after about 7 hours of it being at 17% and started again with just one of the larger folders. but this is incredibly laborious - is this the correct procedure?
Any ideas how I can work out why it froze? Worried it's going to freeze again.

Also, worryingly; despite being able to view the volume in volume manager and see the size grow as I copy files to it - if I go to File station, options and try to enable the file station logs, it says "there is no volume in your system. Please go to storage manager and create a new volume. (95)".

Ideas?

Update;

There was a patch for random reboots sent to me from support.
"If the DiskStation can reboot itself sometimes, this is could be a known issue which can be resolved with the following patch (*):
mod note: link removed

If issue still persist after all above, in this case, please kindly do an RMA all unit including power supply with the local reseller to get it repaired procedure.
"

But in the end I've had loads of issues with mac clients after that.

I know this is an old Thread, but I faced a similar problem and found something that worked in my case:
Also, worryingly; despite being able to view the volume in volume manager and see the size grow as I copy files to it - if I go to File station, options and try to enable the file station logs, it says "there is no volume in your system. Please go to storage manager and create a new volume. (95)".

I had the same error because of my pgsql-database. I solved it by deleting the "/var/services/pgsql" - Data (the content, not the folder-link itselve) and restarting the service with "/usr/syno/etc/rc.d/S20pgsql.sh start"

edit: Found the solution shortly after writing my first post
