How to prevent shut-down when power loss

Postby mark1979smith » Fri May 11, 2012 5:59 pm

Hi,

I have a Diskstation DS410j.

I have attached my APC Back-UPS C S 650 via the USB port on the back of the unit. When I log in to the Diskstation I can see the UPS in the power tab of the control panel.

I have just had a power-cut (which prompted me to ask for help, as the diskstation shut down immediately.)

As the explanaton states, the Syn WILL go in Safe mode AND shutdown cleanly with a power failure.

Ok, now you have 2 possibilities as I see it looking at your screenshot.

Setting 'until low battery' -> check your UPS to see how long it lasts, batteries may be drained or worn out.
Second, you checked the 'Shutdown UPS', so when the DS has done shutting down, so will the UPS and the DS will not come up again.

Safer mode, although uncontrolled. Disable USB support and let the UPS deliver power to the DS as long as it lasts and set the DS to start up when power comes up.
Some people spent a lot of time writing the Help files, use them!

The only thing I can think of:
Did you mistakenly connect the DS AC connector to the surge only outlet (from the manual: the bottom one) ?

Surge Only Outlet. This outlet is always On (when utility power is available) and is not controlled by the On/Off switch. This outlet does not provide power during a power outage. Connect a printer, fax machine or scanner to this outlet.
DS412+. 1x WD20EFRX + 3x HD204UI, SHR (RAID5). DSM 4.2-3211.
DS210j. 2x HD203WI, RAID1. DSM 4.2-3211.
Router Netgear WNDR3700. Switch TP-Link TL-SG1008D. AcRyan Mini v1. UPS APC BE700G-GR. Ipcam Edimax IC-3010.
