2 x DS1512+ died for me

Postby vschroeder » Fri May 11, 2012 1:10 pm

Hi guys,

I have a 4 harddrive setup in my brand new DS1512+.
After I had it for 1 week, it suddenly stopped working and the power LED just flashed blue.
I got a new one very quickly - hardware failure they said. Got the new one, and had it up and running in no time!
- Now, 1-2 weeks after the replacement it does it again!!!

Can't do anything with it. It's just flashing blue... Tried to pull out all drives, but it makes no difference...

Either I have been extremly unlucky with fabrication errors, or something in my setup makes it destroy the motherboard... I'm very confused, and very, very sad about this because my entire company is on those drive - now I realize that's too fragile a solution...

But, have you heard of a certain harddrive setup that makes the NAS break down or anything like that?

No one ever tried this?
It's very frustrating indeed.... I never thought of the NAS as the weak link.

My guess is no one has ever heard of a DS1215+. If you mean a DS1512+ there's tremendous discussion and several threads on this forum about the bad batch of these (and the DS1812+) that experience exactly what you are, the Blue Blinking LED of Death. It's not surprising if you took a bad one back to the place you bought it, you'd get another bad one. Everything you need to know about this has been posted multiple times recently.

Hi MyCloud,

Yes I meant 1512+. Corrected now, thank you for pointing that out :)

- I read some of those post. The reason I made this post, was because I had two that died so quickly. With other words, I thought the chance of getting two bad products was some what zero, so I started wondering if it was my own setup that failed.

At this point, the best thing to do is fill out a support form. Please keep us updated with your dealings with Synology here in this thread.
