I have my DS212 on order.
I currently have a D-link DNS-323 with 2x 1.5tb drives in RAID1.
Should this process work?
1. Power down DNS-323
2. Pull out one of the drives (They are in RAID1 (mirrored)
3. Power up DNS-323
4. Install drive into Synology
5. I'm assuming Synology will automagically format drive?
6. Install synology software on network connected PC
7. Copy all data from DNS-323 to Synology
8. Remove final drive from DNS-323
9. Install into Synology and setup RAID0

RAID0 is not a mirrored volume type, I guess you are talking about RAID1. In this case, yes this procedure is possible.

Thanks!

Wow coincidentally I was quite pleased to see this post as I am currently looking to upgrade and I mean upgrade my DNS 323 to a DS212 as well. As Parafly stated thats how I was going to tackle my conversion as well but is there another way? Harry Potter's response lead me to believe that there might be another method th achieve this.

So I have the new 212 and am working on the migration. I put in one disc so far, it formatted, and now it is doing a disc check. I unchecked the box that said, "Synology Hybrid Raid", since I want to end up with a RAID-1 config.
I noticed just now about 3 hours into the disc check (at 47%) it says it is creating a Synology Hybrid RAID (without data protection).
I just want a regular disc drive right now. If I add the second disc, will it become RAID-1? I don't want or need SHR as both discs are the same size.

Hi
SHR on a 2 bay DS is the same as RAID 1, so let the process go on
