Folder vs. Shared Folder - which is better?

Postby chris gregory » Tue May 08, 2012 6:42 pm

Not sure whether I want to set up my Diskstation with Folders or Shared Folders in a family environment where the main security issue is we want to keep houseguests from seing all but one Xfer (temporary storage) folder. And if I guess wrong, can I change from one to the other once it's set up?

File Station gives two choices:
> Create > Create Folder
> Create > Created Shared Folder
Neither is grayed out. It appears Shared Folder is a top level folder. Folder can't be at the top level. It was confusing because if you think you're at the top level and choose > Create > Create Folder it works, but the new folder winds up being a subfolder. Is that how it is?

Think of shared folders as network disk drives you connect to your PC or Mac--that's how they are seen and used. They are subdivided by regular folders.
